We had the good fortune of connecting with Amra Hajdarevic and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I was pregnant with my daughter, I was determined to find a clean, natural whitening toothpaste. After trying several grocery brands and not getting the desired results, I decided to create my own toothpaste. This challenge led to the birth of Terra & Co. I started on a small scale, manufacturing toothpaste for friends and family, and testing it on Amazon. To my surprise, the toothpaste sold out in three months, despite planning for a year’s worth of inventory. This overwhelming response made me realize the potential of my product. Fueled by this success, I launched a small business from my apartment in Los Angeles, dedicated to offering natural oral care products

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Starting a small business is never easy, especially as a single mom with a newborn. The journey was filled with challenges, and there were many moments when I felt like giving up. However, what kept me going was my belief in myself and my vision. I had spent years generating millions of dollars for other brands, and I was determined to achieve that success for myself and my family.

There was no plan B for me. I owed money to my sister and the bank, and I was not willing to let them down. This sense of responsibility and determination fueled my perseverance.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love living in Los Angeles, especially as a foodie. Whenever friends visit from out of town, I make sure to take them for brunch at The Courtyard Kitchen in Santa Monica. After a sunny day at the beach, nothing beats enjoying a hot lobster roll at Broad Street Oyster Company in Malibu. Sunday mornings are perfect for picking up fresh fruits and vegetables at the Westlake Farmers Market. I always recommend friends and family stay at the sustainable 1 Hotel in West Hollywood, which proudly carries our oral care products for all their guests. There truly is no place like LA!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My sister Azra played a crucial role in my journey. She believed in my products so much that she lent me her savings to purchase more inventory when I needed it most. My mother was also incredibly supportive, helping me pack the first orders as they poured in. I truly couldn’t be where I am today without the unwavering love and support of my family. Their encouragement and belief in me have been the backbone of my success.
