Meet Amy Bright | Co-founder of Orbit Beach Chair, LLC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Bright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
On a day-trip to the Jersey Shore with my family one summer, my brother noticed beachgoers picking up their chairs & all their belongings and turning themselves to face the sun every few hours. He said, “Why hasn’t anyone invented a swivel beach chair?” And, the lightbulbs went off! We sketched an idea that very day, and after 5+ years of r&d, engineering and prototyping, our invention was finally patented and we were ready to launch The Orbit Beach Chair: a portable, multi-purpose recreational chair that swivels 360 degrees in either direction.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are so thrilled to have invented a one-of-a-kind beach chair. It is unique in that it is the only beach chair that actually swivels 360 degrees while reclining in 3 different positions, which makes sunbathing easy and effortless. You can truly relax while you soak up the rays or quickly turn to watch your kids play in the sand. Not only can it be used on the beach, but you can take it to sporting events, use it to stargaze in the desert or swivel while you sit poolside. It’s also the perfect go-to chair for fishing, tailgating, hanging at the lake or sitting around a campfire while toasting s’mores! When the lightbulb went off, we thought, what a brilliant idea…how hard could it be to make this product? Developing the concept was by far the easiest part of the equation. Designing and building the prototype and the process of getting it patented was a far longer process that we could have ever imagined…and it was an extremely costly venture to say the least. It is almost ironic how we put in our blood, sweat and tears into building a chair that caters to those who just want to relax and lounge. But, we truly believed that there was a need for our product, and we were going to stop at nothing to make it happen. We pooled all of our collective resources and powered through and the biggest lesson we learned was, if you truly believe in something, don’t give up! Persevere!!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever I have people visit me in Los Angeles, I love to take my guests biking along the bike path from Santa Monica to Venice Beach or hiking up The Los Liones trail in the Santa Monica hills for the amazing views. I’d follow this up by strolling through the trendy boutiques on Abbot Kinney & grabbing a light lunch and cappuccino at Kreation. And, I’d finish out the evening by taking them to the beach just as the sun is starting to set…the West Coast offers some of the most breathtaking sunsets! And of course, we could bring a picnic dinner & toast with a sundowner as we swivel in our Orbit Beach Chairs!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my brother Joseph Block, the mastermind behind the original idea, and to both our parents: our Mom, Linda Block who’s our biggest supporter (and 3rd partner) and our late Dad Michael Block, for whom without, this endeavor would have never been possible.
