We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Chernikova and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career because of my imagination and where it often takes me. Since I was a little girl, I would spend my days in the forest where I grew up and imagine an entire world made of magic and adventure. I would create my own accessories that I had foraged from trees and plants. I had such a colorful imagination that it led me to believe that as an adult, we can still have the ability to create magic and fill our days with adventure.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a costume designer and stylist. I’m mostly proud of my intuition on perfecting this position. Clothes just speak to me like an unknown language that I’m fluent in. I feel so comfortable with putting looks together and creating a masterpiece. I’m so proud of the outcome once it’s all presented and how much it makes my talent and clients happy. I just love the whole process from visiting with the clients, and then getting everyone’s sizes, and then doing a pull. I love the fittings and everything that goes into it. It’s the most satisfying feeling.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would first take them to all of my favorite museums and eat at all wonderful restaurants. I recently went to Sugar Fish and really loved it. I would also take them up the 1 and drive along the coast with all the windows down playing the best vintage music along the way.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have had so many wonderful mentors it’s hard to nail it down to just one. I have a couple close friends named Brad Rushing and Shaun Piccinino that I would like to give recognition to. Brad is a wonderfully talented cinematographer who always is lifting me up with positive feedback and Shaun is a brilliant Director who radiates so much light, it’s hard to describe. They mean so much to me and have helped me grow so much as an artist. Another person I would like to bring into light is Kristen Anacker. She has helped me in so many ways and has influenced my life for the better.
