We had the good fortune of connecting with MASA The Artist and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MASA, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Things have definitely shifted and the balance is most important now, as consistency is imperative and one can not be consistent without a fully balanced life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
it is. honest, real, uncensored and mostly original at least in concept and execution yet i am influenced by everyone and everything.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
ok if you were to come to my door first thing in the morning for a day of fun, we’d head to the nearest panaderia for some pan dulce and coffee, followed by a trip to guisados for lunch because hand made tortillas feed the soul. a stop by a local arcade or record shop to feed the geek in me would follow. more tacos for dinner if they’re feeling casual. fancy tacos if not lol.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
wow ok, person or organization eh? well there are many! Ms. Ruth Gratehouse who’ve I’ve spoken of fondly in the past, there is also Freddie Thompson, Keny Long, Lula Washington + her dance company and school, Tamika Washington, Rickey Washington (Kamasi’s dad), Regina Williams, Ann Marie Takash, Eos, Cabeza de Todd, Uncle Rick, Pat Leonard, The Orange kids, The Do lab, Richard Simpson mastering, Hollywood High, Trojan network, OPACC, plus every big name event and rave I’ve worked through the years. One learns from every moment and person if so inclined.
