Meet Amy Williams | Yoga Instructor, Energy Healer, Substance Abuse Counselor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I feel like what is helping me succeed is learning to get in the habit of being my authentic self regardless of what other people think. Being front and center and a healer it easy to put a mask on and feel the need to people please. Some one told me once that there is an audience for every one, not every one is going to like my class or is going to connect to my vibe and that is ok. That has always stuck with me and really helps when I start to worry about whether people are enjoying my class. I have done a lot of inner work and my own healing and continue to . The more that is uncovered and more tools I gain to help me excel and grow the more I get to bring that to my classes and share it with others. Being authentic is a habit and it is about being honest with ourselves and communicating that authenticity with others. Authenticity helps build better rapport and connections with others. People come back because they feel safe enough to be real and vulnerable

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Currently I still work full time as a Substance Abuse Counselor but my second job and passion in life is teaching yoga, energy healing, and creating my own healing products. Getting into any career or furthering my education was hard for me due to the fear of failure. what if what I picked would be the wrong choice? I had never finished or followed through with anything prior to my sobriety and I was so afraid I that would fail. I overcame that fear with the help of community and of course my shout out I mentioned earlier (Dawn) she helped me break it down into bite sizes pieces. Instead of worrying about what was out of my control such as failure, I was taught to focus on what was within my control. So I took things one piece at a time just focused on the next indicated step. I went to school , filled out the application, said yes when opportunities where presented to me. I just showed up. I have learned that half the battle with any success is just showing up and doing the work without worrying about the results. Worry caused so much stress and prevented me from taking action or being present. I learned to live more in the moment. I learned to repeat the mantra daily ( where is my feet at ? That is where my head should be) . I also learned that a career does not have to be one defined thing . It can be a multitude of creations. That is what makes life a master piece and work of art. I thought for so long I had to choose between careers . I put boundaries on myself and struggled at times to step out of the box I had put myself. Over time I have discovered that all of my jobs flow together. I think what I am most excited about now is stepping out of my comfort zone and willing to connect more in the energy healing world. I am starting to say yes more and do more events with sound healing, saying yes to private energy healing sessions, and making more products for people. They seem to be hitting it off well and I am just so excited to share the love and hope with others in whatever way that loves wants to manifest itself. I think what sets me apart from others is that there is really no label for what I do only love and connection. They are all opportunities to connect with others to share our experiences and growth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live close to Palos Verdes so I would take them for a drive down Palos Verdes Drive west to have some awesome Thai , Pole or Italian food at the Golden cove shopping center then go on a hike down to the beach for some water play and yoga. I would finish off the day with one of those famous South Bay sunsets. Other places I would take them to visit is Lake shrine up in Malibu, the studio I teach at ( SoulPlay Yoga Studio) for an awesome restorative and energy healing session, I would of course show them the Hollywood sign and Hollywood. I would also take them to Wi spa in Korea town for a fun spa night. The food is bomb there with an awesome roof top to post up to relax. There is so much to do in LA !

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
OH wow where do I begin . The list is long of the village of people that has helped me. get to where I am at. I have to give a big SHOUT out in heaven though to some one who recently passed away this past year. I have been in sobriety for 11 years and my sponsor / spiritual teacher Dawn P. who unfortunately is no longer with us due to cancer has been my biggest mentor in my life. It was truly an honor to have her as my guide, best friend, and teacher for the years that I was blessed to know her. She was like a mother to me and such an example of unconditional love. I would not have the success and relationships I have today with out her.
