We had the good fortune of connecting with Anastasia Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anastasia, why did you pursue a creative career?
I don’t think I had a choice. When I was a kid, all I wanted to do was entertain. My mom tells this story about how when I was 3, I was at SeaWorld, and instead of watching the whale show, I was tap dancing and singing for the crowd. When Shamu did a big leap in the air, the crowd went wild and I thought it was for me and my dancing and singing, so I took a bow. My mom said she got me a manager the next week. I always wanted to be an entertainer. I had many people give me outs as a kid actor, and I never took it. It’s my passion to make people feel things and to start conversations.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started acting and singing professionally at the age of 3. I was lucky that my mom saw my passion to entertain and supported it. I started my career in epic franchises like Die Hard and The Addams Family and working with legends like John Williams and Michael Jackson. It hasn’t always been easy, but I have a passion and an insane work ethic that also motivates me to help those I care about or even a stranger, if I can. And for that I have had great longevity in this industry. Now my goal for my work and life is to bring as many BIPOC and Female identifying stories to the screen. I’m the female Jordan Peele combining social commentary of BIPOC stories with comedy and horror, and still wants to act in all her stuff.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ok. So I am an amusement park junkie. So we are hitting the big 4, Universal, Disney, Knotts, and Six Flags. And we are eating at some fun places, Al and Beas, Smorgsborg LA,, definitely hanging out at the mIchelada tent, and going on a downtown adventure, to the Alamo Draft House, then to the last bookstore, and then stopping at Little Tokyo and eating our way through there, ending with a somisomi ice cream.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shout-out to all the members of the horror group. They are making big splashes, being supportive, and lifting each other up. I am so proud of this community.
