We had the good fortune of connecting with Andre Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andre, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
A good majority of where I’m at now involves risk, I have to lean into it. It inspires me to move past barriers I impose on myself. Taking risk has played an important role, it facilitates growth. It feels like a constant affirmation of my imagination. Whatever the result may be. I work to do my all in exploring my current ideas and take them where I can. Learn, then continue to grow.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a multi-disciplinary creative. My main practice is photography. I am also the founder of Aa Print and Publishing. I’ve been excited to build out new physical worlds to interact with through publishing. As well as continuing to allow photography to bring me into new spaces that facilitates growth and to explore new ideas. I’ve been able to get to where I’m at today thru consistency. It has not been easy, I have to be open and sharp to my errors and ask for advice, especially having no formal training. As for what sets me apart, it’s hard to be definitive at this time. I’m working to carve a new lane for myself. I think it would be best for others to say. I know across all practices, the link is a feeling of high energy and attentive. I like contrast and what is said in between.

I’m thankful for what I have learned thru the practice of printed matter, It’s informed how I interact with objects and people in a physical space. It reinforces my discipline and attention to things being in constant contact with printed matter. Physical things in general, I love to work with my hands. It aids in what I commit to memory, in contrast to the digital atmosphere where most of the time I feel like I’m bombarded with much more than I have time to digest with much less substance. With photography it’s allowed me to learn and develop in listening. Verbally and physically. If you are honest in what you capture, it can be a mirror of your self. I don’t know about working to be known as a brand per se, I believe the work speaks for itself. I am working to move with good intention and in good faith my photography, and publishing with others will serve its purpose now and into the future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have been running a lot lately so, beginning with running a nature trail where the air feels clear. Maybe a calm mediative exercise afterwards. Grab a smoothie or juice to replenish. Later check out the vault tour at Cranbrook. One of my favorite places for food right now is Baobab Fare. Stop by B_KS@ office. End off with an evening bar or Paramita Sound for music and drinks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely, first my mother. Everything that involves an eye or an acute sense comes from her as well as countless other things. When I am aware of it, I lean into it. It’s a way to acknowledge her presence daily in my life. Family and Detroit in general. It’s more names than I can account for. It’s a forward thinking city and I’m thankful to have been raised here. The environment facilitates innovation from I believe pure space. It’s often been the micro to influence the macro, especially in pop culture.
