Meet Andrea Fear | Fine Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Fear and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, what principle do you value most?
The principal I value most is to utilized my creativity to help ease my suffering and to inspire others to do the same. It is through my creativity that I have been able to overcome my fear. I am so fortunate to tap into this energy, it has become a tool the has lead me to discovery and growth.
Creating has allowed me to be present.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create sculptures made from aluminum window screen. I fold the screen with my hands, create a shape and paint the shapes with enamel. I produce hundreds of shapes. Because of the lightweight nature of the aluminum, the pieces become kinetic when suspended. Most of my artwork mimics nature. I have had the opportunity of creating public artworks in hospital, parks and for development companies.
I did not come into my artistry until mid life. While repairing the screen door at home I began to play with the aluminum screen. I loved the texture and its transparency. I loved playing with the screen so much I converted our living room into my studio. A friend gave a book called “The artist way” and my journey began.
I am most proud of my tenacity. The trajectory of my career has not been linear. The “Art world” has been difficult to navigate. For several years I stopped applying tor “ Calls for art” because I was so frustrated with the amount of work required to submit proposals without compensation to the artist.
During this time we lost everything to a devastating fire. 20 plus year of work gone. Once things got settled I realized that I had not lost the experience and the knowledge of creating.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Indiana. We would visit our local museums and parks. Our Children’s Museums is one of the best in the nation and I still go there to play. We would go to “First Fridays” and visit the art openings. We could go salsa dancing at the Jazz Kitchen.
An awesome time would be had by all at the World renown Chatterbox Jazz. Many artist hang out here to hear amazing live Jazz music. I love to cook so we would eat at home.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my Shout out” to my family and friends. I would also like to say thank you to people who have supported my work. All of you who have encouraged and inspired me in ways I cannot convey in words. Thank you so much.
