We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Gutierrez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, what do you attribute your success to?
Original design, highest standards of excellence and outstanding service
What should our readers know about your business?
AGJ is driven by design and art, we actually design our pieces and are not interested in trends be they fashion, celebrity or name brands. Our jewelry is for the confident, bold person who forges their own path(s)in life, the person who is more interested in “the mix rather than the match” and who understands that jewelry can fill an emotional need and that it can be weighted with meaning. It doesn’t matter what it is, there is likely to be some sentimental or emotional reason you wear a particular thing, the piece speaks to you both emotionally and visually. We got to where we are today through perseverance, hard work, making many mistakes and good fortune. It was not easy and yet looking back it wasn’t as difficult as it seemed at times. There have been and continue to be many challenges, especially during this time in our history, we overcame and overcome the challenges by putting one foot in front of the other, believing in ourselves and what we do and of course because of our wonderful, supportive clients. I have learned that “less is more”,keep things, ideas, plans, etc. to the point and clear, don’t overthink or complicate. Ideas are wonderful and on their own can be their own art, however not all ideas need to be made. Lately, AGJ has had many requests to re-purpose inherited jewels into contemporary pieces of jewelry for their owners to enjoy wearing while staying connected to the person from whom the jewelry was inherited. The past connected to the present to the future. It is a powerful process for the wearer and the maker. AGJ has also been working on many custom pieces that speak to the times we live in, people seem to be looking for their connections to family, ancestors, community and the personal symbols that speak to this.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Right now……during the pandemic… the backyard bbq! So many of the restaurants I have loved have closed permanently – Restaurants: Trois Mec, Red Bird, Farmhouse, Gracias Madre, Phillipe’s Original, Boyle Heights – eat locally, walk around, see a play, The Getty, Downtown, Japan Town, Museums
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to my phenomenal body of clients, they have through their trust, inspiration and support given me my business.
