We had the good fortune of connecting with Andres Felipe Bernal Farias and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andres Felipe, how do you think about risk?
Filmmaking is a career full of risks, with intense competition and countless creative and practical challenges. As a risk taker, I decided to move to LA to pursue the art of making movies. On set, I continuously take creative risks, always aiming to improve the final product. I thrive on new challenges, believing that innovation and progress only come through taking risks. Embracing this mindset, I ensure I am well-informed about when and how to take these risks to enhance my career and artistic vision.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an artist, I deeply connect with the stories I’m trying to tell. I believe that the story is always above anything else, and I strive to bring that to the forefront of my work. What sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to creative collaboration. I place great importance on working with others, as I believe that knowing how to collaborate is the foundation of making art. This approach has been my guiding path throughout my career.
I’m most proud of the unique perspectives and voices I’ve been able to bring to life through my projects. Each story is a journey, and being able to share these journeys with an audience is incredibly fulfilling. One of the things that excite me the most is the potential to learn and grow with each new project. I have a deep connection with the stories I tell and am always hungry to learn more, which keeps me motivated and inspired.
Getting to where I am today professionally has not been easy. Moving to Los Angeles from Colombia to pursue filmmaking was a significant risk, but it was a risk worth taking. The challenges were numerous, from adapting to a new environment to breaking into a highly competitive industry. However, my passion for storytelling and the support of my family kept me going. They were instrumental in encouraging me to follow my dreams, and their unwavering support has been invaluable.
One of the key lessons I’ve learned along the way is the importance of perseverance and resilience. There were times when things didn’t go as planned, but I learned to view these setbacks as opportunities for growth. Another crucial lesson is the value of networking and building genuine relationships within the industry. Collaborating with others has not only improved my projects but also opened doors to new opportunities.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that we are dedicated to telling stories that matter. Our mission is to create art that resonates, inspires, and sparks meaningful conversations. We believe in the power of collaboration and the magic that happens when diverse talents come together to create something beautiful. Our stories are deeply personal, yet universally relatable, and we are committed to continuously pushing the boundaries of creativity.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Los Angeles, I would love taking them to Malibu, probably to Point Dume. It’s one of my favorite beaches in California, known for its stunning cliffs, pristine sands, and serene atmosphere. We’d spend the day soaking up the sun, exploring the tide pools, and taking in the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. For a nostalgic dining experience, I’d take them to Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank, an iconic diner that perfectly captures the essence of classic Americana with its retro decor and timeless menu. Another must-visit would be The Grove, a bustling shopping and entertainment complex where we could enjoy a delicious meal at one of its many diverse eateries, perhaps at the historic Farmers Market with its wide variety of food stalls offering everything from gourmet burgers to fresh sushi. Whether we’re savoring the ocean breeze in Malibu or indulging in the vibrant food scene in the heart of LA, the combination of scenic beauty and culinary delights would make for an unforgettable visit. It could end with a drive trough Mullholand drive to check out the valley at night.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shout-out to my mother and father. As I was coming of age, I believed it was just a dream to study filmmaking. I didn’t think I had it in me to pursue my aspirations, but my parents never let me back down and have always been supportive of my career. They are the reason I started and have never looked back again.
