We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Synowiec and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up in a small city called Annapolis, MD. It was the perfect place for a budding artist because there were just enough opportunities to hone my craft in real-world settings without being overwhelmed by a big city.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
With the current working restrictions of 2021, most of my work is done remotely at the moment. Luckily I’ve been collaborating remotely since 2002. A friend of mine from music school had graduated, moved across the country and was beginning to land real jobs in the music industry. We already had developed such a streamlined way of working that it made sense for him to hire me even from 3,000 miles away. At the time, that meant FEDEX-ing DVDs back and forth overnight! Naturally, some methods have evolved greatly since then but the musical skills I developed over the past 20 years are as relevant as ever. When the COVID lockdowns hit in 2020 it was a shock of course, but I was very fortunate to already be “plugged in” to working remotely.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many great spots in LA it’s hard to pick out just a few. I’d probably start with breakfast at Good Neighbor on Cahuenga, then drive out to Malibu and check out the dog-friendly beach at Leo Carrillo state park. After that, stop in for lunch at the Real Inn on PCH – it reminds me of all the great seafood spots back east. For entertainment, naturally we’d have to go to the world famous Baked Potato Jazz Club! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
George Doering has been my hero and mentor since I moved to Los Angeles in 2004. He has been working in the music and film industry for longer than I’ve been alive and there truly isn’t a nicer human being on the planet! It’s been an honor and invaluable learning experience to be able to work with him and watch him in action. (see photo attached!)
