We had the good fortune of connecting with Andy Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andy, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I used to be work, work, work, all the time. As I became a father two years ago. My life changed. As much I want to be a provider for my children. I also wanted to be present in their lives. I have rules set in place with family time and work time. I believe it’s pushed me to work smarter.
I believe at some points of your life the extremes are important. It shows how much you’re willing to sacrifice in order to reach your goals.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve been in the restaurant industry for over seven years now. Co-founding brands such as Afters Ice Cream, Dough & Arrow, Portside Fish Co, Banh Xeo Boys, and more. I’m excited for the upcoming Matte Black Coffee opening up next month in downtown Los Angeles.
My journey as an entrepreneur has been a wild ride. I started out as a Real Estate Appraiser, then started my own clothing brand, and ventured into the restaurant industry. I think any big journey has it’s challenges. I overcame them by believing in my team’s skills, being opened minded, transparent, and driven to do things that haven’t been done before.
I’ve learned in the food industry that not only does the food need to be good. But experience, service, visuals, systems, are all equally important to thrive.
I’d like for the world to know that I’m a dreamer just like everyone else. The only difference is I’m willing to try to make it a reality.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you came to Orange County. I’d take you through Little Saigon. Feed you some of the most incredible Vietnamese food you’ve had in your life. The staples such as Brodard, Pho 79, Seafood Cove, Com Tam Thuan Kieu, THH sandwiches, etc Take you to grab a drink at Rodeo 39 or Bosscat Kitchen. Maybe hit a few rides at Disneyland. I believe Orange County is a awesome melting pot. You can discover so many different sub cultures all over the area
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
