Meet Angel Yang

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Angel Yang again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Angel, always such a pleasure connecting with you and thank you for sharing your stories, insights and inspiring messages with our community. We’re looking forward to getting the download and what you have been up to since our last interview, but first can you briefly introduce yourself to folks who might have missed the prior conversation.
My name is Angel Yang. I am Korean American and grew up in Colorado. I received a bachelor’s degree in Marketing in college. However, I didn’t have a definite plan after graduation and felt lost. I decided to move to Korea to teach English and reconnect with my Korean heritage. That’s where I started taking painting classes with an art therapist. While learning to paint, I experienced the therapeutic benefits of art firsthand and was inspired to go back to school.
After spending five years in Korea, I moved back to the U.S. to pursue a degree in art therapy. While preparing for and attending school, I started Let’s Paint, a sip-and-paint company. I enjoyed teaching people how to paint with simple instructions, making it a fun and engaging activity that allowed them to be creative and present.
After several years, I obtained my master’s degree from Loyola Marymount University and am now a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in Art Therapy. I currently provide telehealth therapy for clients with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, and more.
I have since discontinued Let’s Paint and plan to transition it into therapeutic art activities, offering in-person art therapy to clients in the near future.

Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
Since our last conversation, I have transitioned to virtual painting sessions during the pandemic, graduated from Loyola Marymount University, completed 3,000 hours of supervised experience as a therapist, and passed the licensure exam to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
While accruing my hours, I gained experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, including individuals of different ethnicities, ages, genders, sexual orientations, and beliefs. Through my extensive work with diverse populations, I have supported individuals facing various challenges, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relational difficulties, ADHD, and trauma. I have also worked closely with children on the autism spectrum, as well as foster and adopted children, and have facilitated group therapy sessions.
Currently, I am in the process of obtaining my board certification in art therapy. Once I complete that, I plan to pursue additional training to further my education and hope to facilitate art therapy group sessions and therapeutic art events in the near future.

What do you want people to remember about you and your brand? What are some of things that you feel are most important, unique, special, etc?
I want people to remember that everyone has the opportunity to live a better life and reach their full potential when they heal from life’s wounds. Each person has unique experiences that shape them, along with their own past, trauma, pain, and struggles. Everyone experiences pain differently, regardless of what they have been through, and your emotions are yours to own, no matter how small or insignificant you may think they are. You have the ability to work through your pain and make it part of your story—becoming a survivor of your experience rather than a victim. As a therapist, I strive to help people on their journey of growth, healing, and empowerment.
I believe art can be a powerful tool in the healing process, helping individuals access the nonverbal parts of themselves. Art has an incredible ability to unveil hidden aspects of one’s inner world, increase self-awareness, and foster expression. It requires no prior artistic skills and can take various forms, such as clay, movement, acting, music, poetry, and more.
