We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Honesty and faith are the most important factors when it comes to my success and the success of my brand. I pride myself on always being honest with my clients. I never want to overpromise and underdeliver, so it’s important to set clear expectations. Having faith is so important. No matter how hard the journey may seem, having faith allows me to know that it will always get better!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My professional career and business venture has been an amazing journey. I have a B.S. in Biology and an MBA. Being a full-time IT professional and business owner is no easy task, but I enjoy every moment of it. Hard work and dedicating myself to trusting the process has allowed me to get to where I am today. I like to call myself a “STEM Creative!” I’m a UX Research Manager during the day and a Creative at night. I absolutely love working in the world of technology and customer experience, but I also love creating. My passion for creating was the driving force to launch my business, Carol’s Creation, and allowed me to satisfy both my cerebral hemispheres. My analytical and creative side is what sets me apart from others. This is very important when climbing the corporate ladder and for the growth of any business. When I started Carol’s Creation, I started off with homemade, baked goods only. However, as the needs of my clientele expanded, what I offered to clients expanded as well. I went from offering only cupcakes and cookies to cake pops, balloon decor, custom apparel, floral arrangements, to full on event planning. The process of brining someone’s vision to life and seeing the look on their face when a project is completed excites me the most. One of the biggest lessons that I learned is the importance of taking risks and betting on yourself. Getting to the next level of success requires you to move beyond fear and have the courage to take risks. You have to be willing to think outside the box to move mountains and makes things happen. That is my brand, and how I go into each new project for my clients.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love exploring St. Louis. If my best friend was coming to town, it would be non-stop action. There are so many hidden gems and free attractions for every age group. I absolutely love science and wildlife. There would be some days dedicated to the Science Center, St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Aquarium, and the Missouri Botanical Garden. It’s all about Cardinal’s Nation, hot dogs, good drinks, and nachos, so tickets to a baseball game are a must. All of my friends know that I love a good workout and a good run, so we’d most definitely knock out some trails at Creve Coeur Park or run up Art Hill in Forest Park. You can’t come to St. Louis without visiting the St. Louis Arch and exploring the riverfront. Once we’ve worked up an appetite we’d visit Bait in the Central West End, Prime 55 in the Delmar Loop, or Tucker’s Place in Soulard.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
GOD, my parents, and my village. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my faith. I am where I am because of GOD’s grace and guidance. Outside of my GOD, the unwavering support and guidance that I have received from my parents is unmatched. Through the ups and downs, they have always been there to both gather and direct me. They raised a little brown girl who loved sharks, dinosaurs, dug for worms every chance she could get, and let her know that she could be whatever she set her mind to. They taught me the importance of giving back and being an advocate for STEM while embracing my creative side. Without them, there is no me. My village is my soundboard! When I call, they are there to correct, celebrate, and collaborate. I am beyond blessed to be surrounded by such an amazing support system. Shoutout to my team!!!!!
