We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Parretta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Perfectionist? No. Consistent? Hell yeah! Being consistent is the number one habit that has helped me succeed.
“How you do anything is how you do everything”. That’s a great mindset as a business owner, a parent, a partner, a friend, the list goes on. The way you show up day in and out makes people feel comfortable, safe, and loved when they are around you.
Keeping myself in check. I know my weaknesses and with that, I can’t get my feelings hurt. I already know what needs to improve and what needs adjustments. So in business, when people say you need thick skin, really you just need to keep yourself in check.
Never demanding of others what I don’t demand of myself. As a trainer, it’s easy to just yell out commands. I remind my clients I will never ask them to do something I haven’t done myself. The same goes for my staff. It’s so important everyone feels like a team.
Being willing to get tired. Whether it’s physically being tired from workouts with my clients or mental exhaustion from running several businesses, I remind myself it’s ok to be tired. Tired is a testimony of transformation. Tired is a by-product of hard work. Easy doesn’t make a dream come true, so if I’m tired at the end of the day, I’m ok with that.
Finding joy in the work. I say it in my class all the time, “if you smile it will be easier.” So many times we grunt and growl through the tough moments. But the tough moments call for the very best parts of us. If we can find a moment of joy, a moment to smile, the work becomes more of a moment than a chore.
And most importantly finding time for gratitude every day.
Sometimes I sit back and think of how my fitness habits shaped my business habits.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As the owner of Drenched and Tread+Soul, I live the cliche “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” Yep, pretty much. That’s why we have been so successful. Clients can feel the love the minute they arrive until the closing moment of gratitude before we step off our mat. Working out is more than a workout. We’ve created an atmosphere where people get to know each other and form friendships. Nothing in that room is singular. We all feed off each other; we all need each other’s energy. You can’t leave class without a smile on your sweat-covered face feeling inspired and empowered.
What sets us apart is our boutique studio experience with a hip club vibe. You can hear the music thumping as you arrive and it gets better from there. Whether you’re running on a treadmill, boxing to the latest beat, or doing a reformer class, the music will be there to hype you up.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh boy, this is fun because my best friend loves reality TV so let’s do this!!! The first stop is a workout at Training Mate where Khloe Kardashian took her Revenge Body participants. I’ve been dying to try the Thunder Down Under class! Then we are heading to Pellequr in Beverly Hills for a traditional Korean scrub and some relaxation. Dinner at The Lobster in Santa Monica will be a great way to end the evening with a 180-degree view of the Pacific Ocean. Final stop: a drink at ONYX Rooftop Lounge at the Shangri-La Hotel. While we’re there, we’ll stay the night because we are heading to Venice in the morning! Let’s start with a workout or at least a photo op at Gold’s Gym on the beach. Then lunch at Cabo Cantina Venice with their mega tacos and 36oz margaritas — life is a balance. The next stop is Marina Del Ray for a relaxing Duffy boat ride. (By the way, is there a budget for this visit LOL). Next, we are heading to Pasadena because it’s the 2nd Sunday of the month and we are hitting the famous Rose Bowl Flea Market! 2500+ vendors of anything you might want under the sky. Such a fun place to shop and eat. On the way back we will have one last dinner at my favorite Burbank restaurant, Castaway. An amazing venue with views of the city and short ribs that melt in your mouth! I hope she’s coming soon because this is a solid plan!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh, that’s easy. Elaine Hart shaped who I am today. I was an NFL cheerleader and Elaine was our director at the time. Think Lisa Vanderpump running a professional dance team. We were at an age where we needed guidance, we needed to be professional, we needed ego checks and Elaine gave just that. She taught us that no one from the owner of the team to the janitor was more important than the other. She taught us to show up prepared and ready to work. She taught us how to conduct ourselves on and off the field. She taught us to take in every moment because this was something special that wasn’t going to last forever. And most importantly she reminded us we had to try out every year and our spot was not guaranteed. That’s a great life lesson!
