We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Wang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, why did you pursue a creative career?
Let’s take this back over a decade ago, when I was an art major at Cal State Long Beach. I always loved art and had a passion for contemporary art and it’s aesthetic. I felt free to express anything I wanted with whatever medium I got my hands on. Then I decided I wanted to merge my passion for art with real life products — and that’s how I discovered Industrial Design. That was where I discovered how all products are an artform, how certain features with aesthetics could play with human psychology and how a curve in a form could imply different functions. There was a whole field that we as consumers take for granted. I fell in love with the idea of creating solutions to everyday problems while making everything a piece of art with real intentions. That’s how I founded Orimei, a practical timeless clothing brand with intentional functions for travel and everyday life. Each one of our items was intricately thought out to be a grab-and-go item that could live in your wardrobe, suitcase, or even your car!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an industrial designer, I create solutions to everyday problems. As an artist, I create items that are pleasing to the eye and different from anything anyone has ever seen . As a graphic designer, I make sure there is balance between positive and negative space with colors, text, and layout flow. All 3 fields have played a major role in the designer and the entrepreneur that I am today. I can confidently say that I create aesthetic products that solve everyday problems with timeless designs. Was it easy to figure it out? No. Was this something I thought I would be doing when I was younger? No. Nothing I am now is conventional and pre-determined. It just happened through self-discovery and meeting interesting people along the way. Surrounding myself with people that inspired me was fuel for my creativity. There is something to be learned in all walks of life, I just had to open my eyes and heart to understand it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend were to visit, I’d hands down have to recommend Venice Beach. It’s the perfect balance of diversity, and different walks of life. It’s stunning and has so much personality all-in-one. It’s filled with art — whether on the walls or down the street with different talented makers, You’ll see a full skateboard terrain filled with boarders of all ages (even dogs on decks), surfers on their board at the break of dawn. You’ll occasionally run into a few random live performances of talented rappers, hip hop break dancers, and even a live 25-50 person mariachi band. The people there are also extremely diverse in age, race, sex, and sexual orientation. I just love it there because it shows America as the true melting pot that is really without discrimination or judgement.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The success of my story all started with a little belief from a dear friend. A dear friend who saw something valuable in what I created that I couldn’t see. That dear friend who pushed me to become better and inspired me to inspire others.
