We had the good fortune of connecting with Mathew O’Neill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mathew, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At first it all started as a way for us to capture our vacations as a private keepsake, but when we started running out of iPhone storage, we thought, why not post to Instagram or YouTube (free storage).
Once we started posting, then it started generating a lot of interest from others. Where we found ourselves constantly answering questions around vacation recommendations, experiences, traveling tips, to our favorite “How do you manage to fit in all these adventures into your normal daily lives?” Keep in mind Trevi and I both have full time jobs at this point, on top of running The Adventure Buddies.
The road hasn’t been easy, as starting a business and learning all about social media and what it takes to be an influencer has been difficult, but a rewarding experience in the end. We have to always be evolving and learn to stay relevant and impactful, whether that be through staying up on social media trends, to progressing and developing our photography and videography skillsets to be able to deliver even better content to our consumers. And so we are constantly juggling everything from our two full-time jobs, to non-stop kid activities and sports, to managing The Adventure Buddies It hasn’t been easy, but we have had so much fun creating this business. And from this point forward we will continue to invest in our business to ensure we can help and inspire others to confidently explore this beautiful world we get to call home.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Adventure Buddies is a social media influcencing company that is focused on sharing travel tips and recommendations based on our family adventures. Aiming to showcase that because life is short, we should live through having adventures, whether that be jumping off a waterfall or having a backyard slip and slide with your family, and having an adventure is more so a state of mind than a physical activity.
As The Adventure Buddies quickly progressed we decided to become more intentional on what and how we shared our content. Now, we focus more on showing families and couples how you can travel efficiently and affordably, domestically or internationally, as well as sharing inspiration through our adventures and stories. There is so much more to life and we want everyone to get out and explore all that it has to offer.
Because we here at The Adventure Buddies believe that life isn’t about a destination or an end state, it’s about the journey and those who you get to experience that journey with, hence our tagline “Life’s An Adventure, Who Are You Going On It With?”
Since we have started The Adventure Buddies, being able to see the influence our small company has had makes us the most proud. Whether that be the influence on others to help show them the beautiful world of traveling and having adventures, or the influence The Adventure Buddies has had on our two children Jake and Gianna.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My better half, and current fiancé, Trevi, deserves all the credit for our success and efforts. Prior to meeting Trevi, I never traveled, I struggled with social anxiety, and I felt more comfortable staying at home than going out and exploring. Trevi has shown me that life is too short, and that there is too much out there in this big world to explore, that we can’t waste a moment.
And through our growing relationship, she has shown me that being able to go on all of these adventures with someone you truly care about, either that’ your significant other, your family or your friends, makes these experiences so much more memorable.
Trevi’s vast experience in international travel as well as outgoing, adventurous and friendly personality is what has made The Adventure Buddies what it is today.
