We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelica Goncalves and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angelica, how do you think about risk?

I love taking risks, I was brought up taking risks. If you really want to do something, it doesn’t hurt to try it. Be realistic with yourself and see if you like it or not. I started the podcast (A Little Bit Of Everything With Me!) back in 2019, I was super nervous and didn’t expect much from it. I just wanted a platform where I can speak and gain confidence in myself in being a self advocate for my learning disability. Once I got comfortable, ideas came to mind where I was able expand and grow my podcast to what it is now. I never thought I would be a two-time Latin Podcast Award Winner and a Platinum Award Winner. If it wasn’t for self push of doing it then I wouldn’t have these amazing opportunities that I have today. I don’t like to have regrets, if you taking a risk remember to remain positive.

I opened AVG (All Very Good) online shop in 2020, during the first year it was hard to push your online shop through instagram, there were times where I wanted to close up shop. After two years my products are going to be in some retail stores in 2022, I never gave up on my “baby”. I kept trying new ideas, going into the community looking for a solution, I had to pivot my business to grow. Everything that I have done has been a risk. I know there are many negatives in what you want to do but you have manifest the positives and if you want to succeed you will see the results. I am a new mom and have a great full time career and running a part time podcast and two side hustlers. I love the challenge! Go take that risk you got nothing to lose.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I didn’t expect my podcast to grow so fast, starting a podcast, in general, isn’t easy. It’s a slow process, I feel a lot of people think we can start making money right away when we see celebrities create one of their own and they are given thousands for every episode. Unfortunately for us indie podcasters it’s not the same. You need to be patient, you can’t expect everything to happen so fast. I remember when I released my first 5 episodes within the first week, I just had one person who listened. I was happy there was one person who did, better than no one.

It’s a lot of work being a one-woman show. I schedule guests, interview guests, edit, produce, social media, and everything else. When I decided to produce 5 episodes a week, after two months the podcast grew so much. I was addicted to podcasting. I had so many ideas going through my mind that I wanted to do with my podcast and most of the time it worked. I am proud of myself for how much I grew. I learned as a go and interviewing over 300+ personals on my show is what I think is the “money-making” moment, creating a network of people is the reward with podcasting.

I work a full-time job and I spent a lot of hours in the evening and weekend interviewing and organizing my episodes and replying to emails. I learned you need to keep organized and use your calendar to block off time to work on your passions. Now being a new mom, the challenge has been accepted, it’s been hard not going to lie but having this passion for podcasting hasn’t gone away and I just want to keep going. I am hoping it will get easier with time. I have to learn to ask for help more often. I still don’t make money from the podcast, it’s almost been 3 years but if an opportunity comes I will consider it.

Listened in 94 countries, available on 20 podcast platforms, produced over 650 episodes, two-time Latin Podcast Award Winner in 2020 & 2021, and Platinum Award Winner 2021 for Community Votes Etobicoke. Hard work pays off. I learned if you love something, results will come in due time.

Don’t ever give up on your dreams because for me some are becoming true. Don’t look at it as “making the money” look at what community you want to build because anything is possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s a lot of great places in Toronto, The CN Tower is a great spot to see the city. Casa Loma is a great place to see a Gothic Revival-style mansion and garden that belongs to Sir Henry Pellatt. Driving to Niagara Falls which is everyone’s favourite place to see. Want some outdoor attractions, head up to Blue Mountain for some fun. If you’re here for a week why not drive to the Capital, Ottawa, and Montreal. There are so many great eats here being a diverse city. You can find just about anything, I love supporting local restaurants and shops and I feel it’s the best places to try.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

My parents have been such an amazing support system, all they wanted from me is to be happy and be successful in my own way. I’m very grateful for pushing me to my limits and allowing me to explore what I wanted. Having a child with a learning disability can be a burden for some parents and having doubts about their child’s success but my parents encouraged and told me to never give up on anything I did. The person that I am today and the success that I have I owe it to them.

Jorge my husband, I know I can be crazy with starting new projects but thank you for allowing me to do what I want to do.

My Co-Op family, as a co-founder of this community group I am super grateful for the support and how this community of podcasters has grown. You all have supported the podcast but also all the other stuff that I currently do so thank you. To my co-host Coupon Queen Pin, thank you for partnering up with me, the projects that we do together have been the best experiences ever.

Shoutout to my friends who supported me through all my craziness, thank you for supporting my passions.
