We had the good fortune of connecting with Tundae Mena and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tundae, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Knowing when to keep going or give up is one of the hardest points to be at. I think with all paths in life you simply have to ask yourself is this moving me closer to or further away from my goals. If the answer is closer, keep going, if further away then assess the situation and what you need to change to get where you want to go. If it it’s more than you’re willing to do or have the capacity for at the moment, that’s when you table it to come back to or move on from forever.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is my point of view. When you see my work you know its mine and that’s not something everyone can say.
I am most excited about opening a studio. Covid times has shown me I really need a home bse to operate out of to take things to the next level. Somewhere I can have space and have people come through to make history.
For me getting to where I am was about discipline and consistency. Having the drive to keep going no matter what. There will always be obstacles of some sort but those are just opportunities to rise above and show yourself what you’re made of.
I’ve learned to keep goin and to lean on your support system but to first cultivate one. You cannot do it alone so finding people to lift me up when I’m down has definitely helped me overcome many a challenge.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to get some brunch at Pann’s. We could hit up LACMA or MOCA or the BROAD see some art. Would definiteley have to pop by Leimert Park on a Sunday and of course a beautiful hike in Malibu.
We’d have to stop by the studio and make some music as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my fiancee and my four month old son! Ari + Marley X
