We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelina Shlecter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angelina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Prior to starting Cubcakes, I was working full time in finance while also trying to raise two little boys. With little to no free time, I often relied on store-bought snacks but found myself spending so much time pouring over nutrition labels to decipher all the foreign sounding ingredients. Even the baked goods at local bakeries had too much added sugar. The lack of prepared truly kid-friendly options was frustrating. I decided it was time to take the reins myself and created Cubcakes, a family focused baked goods business for every life’s moments. To me, that means not only delicious but also nutritious. Filled with organic fruits and vegetables. No preservatives. Little to no refined sugar. Easy to read and understand ingredients. And perfect for play dates, preschool lunch boxes, birthdays, even today’s breakfast.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What I’m most excited about is that my customers are helping me shape the future of this business. It all started with toddler-friendly mini muffins – delicious mini bites filled with organic fruits, vegetables, made with little to no sugar and of course fit perfectly in your little one’s hands. But then I quickly expanded to regular size muffins for their older siblings and parents who would often sneak some bites and finish the crumbs from their little one’s box. Last year, I added chocolate chip lactation cookies – nutrient dense made-to-order cookies for new mamas – based on my favorite childhood recipe. After chatting with a mama customer, I learned there was a desire for a refined sugar free lactation cookie and after lots of diligence (aka eating), oatmeal raisin lactation cookies were added to the menu. Sweetened naturally with only dates and raisins, its truly a guilt-free snack for new mamas (and honestly anyone who loves cookies). Based on customer requests, I foresee smash cakes (officially) added to the menu soon…

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend also has toddlers so we would be enjoying a kid friendly itinerary exploring our favorite places in the LA area. Here are just a few of the places we would visit (with Cubcakes in tow of course!). – Underwood Farms to pick fruits and vegetables and look at all the animals
– Rock climbing at Vazquez Rocks
– A morning in Malibu exploring the tide pools and playing in the sand
– Feeding goats at Pez Farm, an urban rescue farm
