Meet Angelo Metz | Musician, producer and educator.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelo Metz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelo, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
That there are many levels of professional success in the music business. You don’t have to be a celebrity to make a decent living, and you don’t have to be a struggling broke musician.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been a musician since I can remember. Started playing guitar at 6 years old. I was born in a very small town in the south of Brazil, called Montenegro, and music brought me where I am today, one of the world’s megalopolises. Nothing comes easy in the music biz. It takes tenacity, preparedness and oportunity, ideally all at the same time. LOL! You can see me performing constantly all over southern California.
I also run a small charity that donates guitars to the needy. We are on Facebook under the name Curly’s Guitar Angels.
I’m proud of where I am, supporting my family and making a living doing what I love.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles is such a vibrant city. It would take several lifetimes to explore the whole of it. The social and cultural spaces, restaurants, and natural attractions offer endless possibilities for entertainment. The Music Center, Disney Hall, Hollywood Bowl, and all the other great music venues are a must visit. The jazz clubs are also a must, despite the great decline in numbers. I also love the beaches, mountains and deserts, and spent many years surfing, snowboarding and motocrossing. After many serious injuries I retired from radical sports and been enjoying offshore fishing and camping. In general I prefer avoiding big crowds and enjoy more calm and intimate functions.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a lot of people deserving of credit for my success in the music business. To many to list. I’d like to credit my mother, who’s a musician and music teacher, still active, my wife, Claudia Schwartz, and many of my teachers. To name a few, my Brazilian teachers Daniel Wolff and Antonio Cunha, and my American teachers Joe Diorio and Frank Potenza. Also my music mentors and partners, both gone too early, saxophonist Paulo “Lata Velha” and Antonio Santana. I’m also thankful to my alma mater, USC.
