We had the good fortune of connecting with Anita Hartog and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anita, what inspires you?
I’m deeply inspired by the opportunity to help others. Life has its way of throwing curveballs, with its ups and downs, often feeling inconsistent and, if I’m being honest, sometimes exhausting. I find immense joy in easing that burden for others by doing my very best to get them exactly what they need or are searching for in those moments.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a Commercial and Residential agent in Long Beach, California, I believe what truly sets me apart is my relentless drive to learn and grow in every aspect of my work. It’s not enough for me to just know something exists; I need to understand the why and how behind it, and how it can genuinely enhance my clients’ lives. This commitment to being well-informed enables me to guide my clients through their transactions with confidence and ease.

Starting a new career in my late 40s was a significant challenge. At the time, I was navigating personal difficulties and needed to return to work. There were moments of doubt when I wondered if I’d ever find my footing. But failure was never an option for me. I joined Toastmasters, book club & bible study. I submerged myself into self help and motivational material. I had to succeed, and I truly believe that God guided my path from there. He placed a top commercial agent in my office who was willing to mentor me and he had a foundation where I could serve—a blessing in every sense.

Plus the knowledge that the kids I mentored were watching me also fueled my determination. I wanted them to understand that no matter what life throws at you, and no matter how tough things may seem, we are the authors of our own stories. No one has the power to tell us we can’t achieve our dreams except ourselves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d tailor the experience to her preferences, but if she left the planning to me, we’d start in my city, Long Beach. For the first night, we’d kick things off with lunch at Shoreline Village, enjoying the waterfront views. Then, we’d head over to the Queen Mary for a cocktail—just so she could say she’s done it—and maybe take a bay tour. For dinner, we’d make a special trip to The Magic Castle in Hollywood, an exclusive club where only members or their guests can experience incredible dining and magic shows.

On day two, we’d catch a flight to Las Vegas. While I’m not a huge fan of the city, I have to admit it offers some of the most beautiful hotels, world-class shows, and an abundance of fine dining options. Day three would be a classic Vegas day: waking up to room service, lounging by the pool, enjoying an amazing lunch, and then heading back to Long Beach.

Day four would be our recharge day—just hanging out at home, catching our breath, and enjoying some downtime. On day five, we’d take a quick trip to San Diego, explore the sights, and have dinner at The Oceanaire Seafood Room, known for its fresh fish and oysters. That evening, we’d dive into the nightlife in the Gaslamp District.

Finally, on day six, we’d visit Coronado Island, indulge in brunch at the iconic Hotel del Coronado, and then head back home. As you can tell, I have a love for good food and unique experiences, so this itinerary would be all about savoring the best flavors and sights around Southern California and beyond.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many people have played a role in my journey—through the good, the bad, and the downright ugly. Finding my own path wasn’t straightforward; it was marked by confusion and heartache. Yet, I must acknowledge that I grew up in a stable, loving home and always knew I had God by my side. While the tough times and disappointments were challenging, having that foundation made them a bit easier to navigate and helped me see the direction I was meant to follow.

During this time, I served with the teens at my church for two years, where I gained valuable leadership skills. Serving has always been my sanctuary, a place where I find peace and purpose.

Now, as I reflect on my journey, I can confidently say that I love what I do, and it reassures me that my thought process was right. Above all, I owe my deepest gratitude to my family, who have always been there for me, ready to step up when needed. Their unwavering support is truly priceless.
