We had the good fortune of connecting with Anita Huor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anita, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Happiness comes from my thoughts scribbled into drawings while sipping on a good cup of coffee. Like many artists, my journey began when I watched cartoon shows growing up like Teen Titans and Shaolin Showdown, which has contributed to my desire to explore the art field. Although the process of creating art is sometimes tedious and challenging, it is mind-blowing and fun to see the end results. I love seeing how my work develops over time and how it impacts others. My second creative outlet is when I do photoshoots of my friends or have photoshoots for myself because it is enriching to see people captured as art through photography. I also love solo traveling because it allows me to feel independent and eager to wake up to a new adventure. This creative flow of my life tracked through my work and given opportunities allows me to feel happy and accomplished in my goals.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I graduated from CSUF in Entertainment Animation with a minor in Information Systems. I find what sets me apart from others is how I’m an ambivert, so I am always eager to make new connections whether we share a common interest or not. I’m most excited when I draw on my sketchpad and whenever I engage in meaningful conversations. However, professionally today, I am currently working for a marketing company which is a different direction from my interest in an art career. It wasn’t easy because it is a different kind of environment for me. My take on trying out a different career path is to learn how to market and promote businesses, clients, and myself. As artists, we work with all kinds of clients, so it is important to learn how to network and ensure goals are being met. I hope to use the knowledge and skills I’ve gained and apply them to my art path in the future.
I’ve learned so many lessons throughout my life and one of them is regardless of age, don’t be afraid to learn and take on opportunities. If you find yourself needing to step back and relearn the fundamentals, then do it because this will only help you grow professionally and personally. Additionally, take time for yourself and enjoy the simple pleasures in life such as reading books and traveling.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A visit wouldn’t be complete without a good cup of coffee so I would show my best friend, friends, or any visitors in the area, my favorite coffee spot which is Frame Coffee in Downtown Fullerton. It’s a great spot to have a nice latte and conversation. Additionally, depending on the day, I would take them to a small pop-up event to support small businesses, thrift shopping, picnic at the park, or watch a Broadway show. Depending on the friend, I might even suggest doing a photoshoot for fun. To end the night, I would take them to my favorite sushi spot called Ginza in Fullerton.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to my parents for providing a roof over my head instead of letting me live in a cardboard box. My desire to be successful and better every day, comes from watching them demonstrate what it means to be a hard worker. Additionally, I’ve received so much mentorship and encouragement from so many people throughout my life, it wouldn’t have been as good of a chapter without them. The organizations I must recognize are CSUF Women in Animation, The Rotaract Club, Daily Titan, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Entertainment and Tourism, where I was given the opportunity to serve on these executive board positions to build profound connections, leadership skills, and unforgettable memories. I would especially like to thank my two best friends, Amberly Calderon, and Tamarrah Nguyen, who have been there every step of my journey. Lastly, I would like to also thank my artist friends, Frank Gomez, and Mindy Strouse, who have given me the best mentorship to help me grow in my career path. They are among the many who have pushed me, where I hope to utilize their guidance, to become an aspiring mentor in the future.
