We had the good fortune of connecting with Anje Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anje, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For more than 35 years, I have successfully used my master’s degree in public relations to amplify and publicize an extensive list of celebrity clientele. Now, that I am a retired veteran publicist I am using my decades of experience to break barriers in the fashion industry with my new luxury shoe brand, Coco & Blue Collective.
Right before the pandemic, I broke my ankle and I was down for about six months and then the pandemic hit and I had a lot of time to reflect upon my 35 years as a publicist. This also gave me time to think about what I really wanted to do. One was to focus on my organization Women In PR, and two just sit down and do me for once.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Being a publicist is the most unappreciated job and after years of being in the entertainment industry, I decided to pivot from my high-profile position in public relations to turn my love for shoes into a successful business.
While many may consider it a risk to start a business during a pandemic, I was willing to roll the dice and bet on myself to win. My move proved to be successful, as my design capsule line which was launched right before Christmas, sold out in less than a month!
It was simple, I know that everyone can’t afford expensive shoes, but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve the quality. I want every woman that wears my brand to look and feel the luxury they desire.
And with that being said, as of March 1st, I dropped a Ready To Wear online shoe boutique, Coco Blue Shoes. And it has really taken off with the price points being $20-80.00.
To follow my successful capsule collection—that featured a range of sexy options including strappy sandals, thigh-high boots, and even chic handbags—I launched my second line on February 4. A dapper footwear line for men. I want to celebrate the great men that continue to have a huge impact on my life and others, so I named this collection after influential men in my life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I’m a city girl and I stay close to DTLA, and the world is opening up. You could find us dining and drinking tequila at Joey’s DTLA and hanging out at local rooftop spots like at the Wayfair Hotel. And then we would probably head out to Malibu to go to the beach and eat at Nobu.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my mom Blanche Rogers, she has been my biggest supporter and cheerleader, and my partner Brian Pearson who allows and supports me to live my dreams.
