We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Cordova and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind our success is consistency on quality and meeting a client’s deadline. Honesty is important in building a long lasting relationship.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart from other post facilities is our welcoming space and we love when our clients refer to us as the FILMLOOK family.
In 1989 we came onto the Hollywood scene as newbies to the industry. Our goal with our patented technology, the FILMLOOK® process (an award winning process) was to change how producers and networks shot their content. The FILMLOOK® process was a tape-to-tape process where we make video shot productions look like it was shot on film without shooting on film thereby saving them money and time. There was a lot of resistance since video was not associated with quality at that time until one high profile production company (Witt-Thomas) was convinced the FILMLOOK® process would give them an edge over their competitors. The first show they used our process on was “The Larrouqette Show” which aired for 5 seasons. It was after this show that we had a multitude of producers seek us out to give their content the look of film with our process.
In 1992 FILMLOOK earned the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences award for outstanding achievement in engineering development. Our second patent was awarded on the 24P technology back in 2001. Though our second patent is now obsolete, it brought us great success and our technology is in almost every camera on-set. We have changed our business since then and reinvented ourselves to keep up with today’s market. To this day, the FILMLOOK name is well-known not only in Hollywood but nation-wide.
Thirty-two years later, we are now a full-service post facility in addition to producing our own content. As the demands of the industry continue to change, we strive to find ways to update our brand to meet the desires of our clients and maintain the personal customer care we are known for.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a big fan of music, I love going to places that have live music. Some of my favorite places to go are Whisky A Go Go, Rainbow Bar and Grill and the Smokehouse. Sunset Boulevard is always a highlight for a taste of the night life, but meetings are a big part of my life, too. I enjoy meeting with colleagues and clients alike at places such as Soho House, The Polo Lounge, TAO Los Angeles and one of my personal favorites, The Magic Castle.
For those sunny afternoons just to hang out and grab a bite to eat, Malibu is the place to go. Broad Street Oyster Company and Jeffery’s in Malibu have high-quality seafood at an ideal location for relaxation.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ever grateful to my parents for instilling the importance of hard work and belief in myself that I can do whatever I set my mind to especially if the intention was for my highest good.
My business partner is 17 years older than me and when we first started our business I was in my twenties so he was key in making sure I didn’t underestimate myself amongst the giants of Hollywood. The chemistry between the two of us was essential in making our place of business a success.
