Meet Anna Pujolras | Screenwriter and Script Supervisor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Pujolras and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe the most important factor behind my success, or anyone’s for that matter, is the people you surround yourself with and trust. Having people around me who trust my judgement and my work has helped me branch out outside of my circle of friends and acquaintances, making my screenwriter services known to many. You can apply to many jobs or gigs, but people hire you based on judgement and reputation. Word-of-mouth is essential for someone’s success, and surrounding myself with friends and colleagues who value my work and who I can rely on for constructive criticism and support has made me not only a better person but a better professional.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love telling stories, regardless if they are my own or not. I’m a screenwriter who works on my own projects as well as developing scripts for other people. It can go from hearing an abstract idea and developing a feature/TV/play script from scratch to putting the finishing touches on an already completed script. I also work in marketing, so I create pitch decks and other materials that help sell or shop a project to networks and studios/production companies. On set, I usually work as script supervisor, tracking continuity and making sure that the story makes sense throughout any changes that the director decides to make on the spot. The thing I’m most proud of is how versatile my writing is, as I’ve had to adapt to my clients’ ideas and their vision while adding some of my style to the mix. Sometimes it’s not easy, as their vision might not match mine, but there are always solutions, and at the end of the day art is so subjective that there’s no right or wrong, just a cooler or simpler way to get the narrative across. I got to where I am through trial and error and learning from the mistakes and the triumphs as well. Art changes constantly, and as a writer, you have to change with it and adapt.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When coming to LA it’s inevitable to hit the touristy spots, such as the Santa Monica Pier, Universal Studios, and the Hollywood Blvd. But when visiting LA I tend to recommend a blend of touristy and local activities. One of the first things I would do is go to the Hollywood sign through the neighborhood under it, where you can see the pretty houses and admire their architecture, and finish the excursion with a never-disappointing brunch at the Beachwood Cafe. Grabbing food and going up to the Griffith Observatory during sunset is also a must, and if the museum is open it doesn’t hurt to make a visit. The beach never disappoints, so going to some non-overcrowded spots in Malibu and finishing wine tasting at Rosenthal is a great way to have a chill day. For any night, I always recommend any speakeasy bars such as The Rendition Room or The Green Room, or if drinking and enjoying the local cuisine is not part of the plan, a good rooftop cinema or drive-in cinema is always fun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Perry’s Place is a great organization that helps adopt and foster cats, as well as offers community services and helps with other needs that a cat-owner might have. Their volunteers can play with the cats and show potential families how great the animals are, and eventually be able to relocate every homeless cat into a great place. Volunteering with Perry’s Place is a good way of helping those cats in need and the community.
