We had the good fortune of connecting with Anne Thornton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anne, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Actually my former (and all-time favorite) boss from The Waverly Inn (15+ years ago) John DeLucie introduced me to CookUnity. He’s been very successful on the platform in NYC and was singing CU’s praises. I’m so grateful to him for the introduction, and now I have a totally plant based gluten free menu on the platform.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a chef my art literally becomes part of someone’s body, so I feel a responsibility to create the most healing food for the customer and for the planet. So after years of making conventional food with lots of plant based dishes and a few plant-based restaurants I dedicated my career to making vegan food. My entire menu for CookUnity is plant-based and gluten-free, because I want the food I create to be as nutrient dense and anti-inflammatory as possible. So it can help heal and truly nourish people. Also, I am a futurist and believe that plant-based food is the future of food and chef-created meals delivered directly to your door is the future of the restaurant industry. I always want to be on the cutting edge of my art and industry, and as a former Apple employee turned chef, I love the perfect marriage of food and technology that CookUnity has created.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love taking people for a hike at Griffith Park and then going for lunch at All Time, or walking around Silverlake Reservoir and going for lunch at Botanica. I also love taking people to The Original Farmer’s Market; have lunch at Monsieur Marcel, pick up some local produce from some of the best farmers in SoCal at Rick’s, get some horseradish pickles from Kalin+Kalin, and some candy from Little John’s. Also, a trip is not complete without a Friday produce delivery from Flamingo Estate.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always encourage people to check out Lacy Phillip’s work To Be Magnetic. I have always been a powerful manifestor, but this program she has created has been an excellent acclarent for me and for so many. Highly recommend, and always a shout out to meditation and Thich Nhat Hanh.
