Meet Anson Li | Founder & Growth Marketing Strategist, Moorpark Marketing

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anson Li and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anson, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Moorpark Marketing after watching friends with small businesses struggle to keep up with the daily demands of running and growing a company. They were managing customers, staff, operations, finances, and constant fires. Marketing mattered, but it was often the part that felt the most confusing, fragmented, and unsupported.
After 15+ years in marketing across eCommerce, SaaS, local businesses, and larger brands, I saw a clear gap. Many small businesses are past the DIY stage, but they are not ready to hire a full internal marketing department. They also do not need another disconnected vendor creating more work for them to manage. They need one accountable partner who can build a clear, measurable growth system.
That is why I built Moorpark Marketing as a fractional marketing department for small businesses. We give owners senior-level marketing strategy and hands-on execution under one roof, connecting the pieces across paid media, SEO, local search, website conversion, CRM, email, analytics, and reporting.
For me, starting the business was about building the kind of marketing partner I would want to hire: practical, honest, data-driven, and focused on work that actually moves the business forward.

What should our readers know about your business?
Moorpark Marketing is a Los Angeles-based growth marketing agency built for small businesses that need senior marketing leadership and hands-on execution without hiring a full internal team.
What makes us different is that we do not treat marketing as a list of disconnected tasks. A lot of small businesses have pieces of marketing in place: a website, ads, email, social media, a CRM, maybe some reporting. The problem is that those pieces are often not working together. Our role is to connect the full growth system so business owners can see what is working, what needs attention, and where to focus next.
We operate as a fractional marketing department, which means we help with both strategy and execution across areas like paid media, SEO, local search, website conversion, CRM, email marketing, analytics, and reporting. The goal is not just to “do marketing.” The goal is to create clarity, prioritize the right work, and build a system that supports measurable growth.
What I am most proud of is that Moorpark Marketing was designed around the realities of small business owners. Most do not have unlimited time, huge budgets, or large internal teams. They need practical recommendations, honest communication, and marketing support that respects their resources.
Getting here has not been easy. Moving from corporate marketing into building my own business meant learning how to sell, package services, manage operations, and communicate value in a much simpler way. The biggest lesson I have learned is that clarity is one of the most valuable things you can give a client. When a business owner understands what matters, what does not, and what to do next, they can make better decisions.
What I want people to know about Moorpark Marketing is simple: small businesses deserve high-quality marketing too. You should not have to choose between doing everything yourself, hiring a full team before you are ready, or managing a group of vendors who are not aligned. There is a better way to build a clear, accountable, and measurable growth system.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Los Angeles for a week, I would not try to show them only the postcard version of the city. I would want them to experience the mix that makes LA special: neighborhood spots, creative energy, great food, music, and a little bit of chaos.
I would start close to home in the Valley with coffee at Groundwork Coffee, a casual breakfast at Red Maple, and a drive through Burbank and Toluca Lake.
I would spend one day around Silver Lake, Echo Park, and Highland Park, walking around, grabbing food, stopping into shops, and ending the night with a show at a venue like The Echo. Music is a big part of my life, so I would definitely build part of the trip around seeing a band, finding a small venue, or digging through records at Atomic Records in Burbank.
I’d want them to try my favoriate mexican spot Salsa & Beer and my favorite fine dining restaurant Castaway.
I would also make time for the quieter LA moments: a beach walk at manhattan beach, a hike at Sandstone Peak, a late-night drive along Mulholland, and a few hours just sitting somewhere with a view talking about life. To me, the best version of Los Angeles is not one single attraction. It is the feeling of moving through different pockets of the city and realizing how many people are here building something, making something, or chasing something.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout to Preston at Space Salon.
Preston was my first small business marketing client, and he played a meaningful role in helping me see the need for Moorpark Marketing. Working with him showed me how much impact the right marketing support can have for a small business owner who is already carrying so much day to day.
He has also been genuinely supportive of me stepping away from corporate work and building something of my own. That kind of trust matters. Space Salon helped me understand that small businesses do not just need more marketing tasks done. They need a partner who can bring clarity, strategy, execution, and measurable growth together in a practical way.
I’m grateful to Preston for believing in me early and for helping me see that this service could become something real.
