We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Aguilar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
That’s a great question, balancing my regular day job, then coming home to work on 2 businesses was no easy task, I’d stay up till 2am making products, pouring and labeling, then waking up at 5am for my day job, I got to the point where I made my work life my priority, family and work was my main priority, everything else was just a blur at that time, I gave up my social life to make sure my businesses were doing they’re best, 4 years into my business and I was still going full force, stressed beyond my mind, one day I just said that’s it, I’m done I can’t do this no more, I pretty much gave up the businesses, just shipping orders and not making products, I did that for about 5 months, then I re branded both companies, designed new logos, and hit it again, but this time I said I’m not letting this take over me, I learned to balance my work life and my life together with out stressing my self out so much, after that things went smooth, I enjoyed both my life and my work life, now here I am almost 6 years later, still in the business, and not started a third business, I completely changed things up, I started a Mexican candy business with the push of my parents who motivated me to do it, I kept that same mentality, not letting it take over me, I make candies as I get low, hit events when ever I can and just let things ride, if there’s one piece of advice I can give to any one starting a business, don’t let it take over tour life, enjoy your life and enjoy your business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Aside from my cosmetics companies, I recently started a Mexican style candy company, taking your every day candy and infusing it with Mexican flavors, from sour candy’s to gummy bears, and just recently a hot sauce infused with Carolina reaper peppers, iv learned so much from starting this business, from spices, to the crazy world of peppers, I’m still pretty fresh in the game but I would eventually like to get this brand out to every one, If there’s one thing I’d like every one to learn is, be open minded, try new things, open your mind and expand your tase buds!!!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being a la native you learn all the good food spots that are under the radars, non of that top 10 places to visit in la, the real mom and pop places, first of course we are cruising Whittier Blvd in my 64 Galaxie cause that’s just how I roll, we would stop and hit up tacos Baja for some bomb fish tacos and horchata, all the real la locals know how amazing this place is, then at night maybe hit golf and stuff in the city of Downey cause every one knows golf and stuff, I would for sure take them to wing house in South Gate for some good hot wings and booze, depends where my family is from is where I’d take them I guess, I wouldn’t take my Texas family to a bbq place cause they know real bbq food lol but if it was line Reno family I’d take them to mr bbq in Pico Rivera, small local place, amazing food and the owner there is extremely humble, I’m a simple dude I don’t really ever hit the big name places or any of those top 10 places to visit in la
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a hand full of people I can thank for all this, my parents for always pushing me to do my best, and always supporting me, my wife who’s always making sure I stay on track, my close friends, you guys know who you are, my boss mr Steve Alperson for all the business advice he’s given me from the start, and making sure I don’t slack off, and giving me space to work on my products
