We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Bello and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was probably like most people, scared lol. But I knew it was something I wanted to pursue. It was now or never. It was during the pandemic and I had been taking photography serious to where I didn’t view it as a hobby. Like most people in this digital world, I took to google and asking “how to get a business license?” The rabbit hole of information began and before I knew it I learned about s corp and all the other business jargon. My thoughts were I want to be taken serious as a photographer and videographer so having a legitimate business was the logical step for me.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’m predominantly a portrait photographer here in Southern California and I do a bit of videography. What sets me apart from others is that when I capture an image I take the photo with the intent for them to not only see a good quality photograph but to really see themselves. Capture their mood, their essence. For anyone that sees the photo feels as though they were right there or even the one who took it themselves. The pandemic is as truly a silver lining. I was doing travel vlogs in Japan and travel restrictions were being implemented which resulted in less vlogs and more pictures nearby of friends. I had quite a bit of time to watch YouTube days on end and sponge up as much as I could. Took some editing lessons that really helped put me in the right direction and I took it from there to where I am today. It wasn’t easy because I had no traditional training of operating a camera or using Adobe. My desire to want to be a good photographer has and been my drive. I’ve learned so much in my first year of picking up a camera. From the technical aspects, composition, color theory, which I’m constantly learning and increasing my knowledge base. I’ve learned about the business aspect (taxes, finances, invoices, etc) I want the world to know that expressing and sharing myself with the everyone through my platform of photography can hopefully inspire them to carry out their wildest dreams because it’s possible regardless of the position you are in life whether young and unsure or on the older end and just figuring it out. You got this.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ohh my favorite place is Santa Monica hands down it’s my happy place. Hanging out at the Santa Monica pier just enjoying the spectacle or partaking lol. Finishing off with watching the sunset and seeing the lights on the pier. It never gets old for me. That’s the first place I would take them. Definitely stop down to Venice there’s so much character there it truly has a pulse of its own. Definitely have to take a hike up to the Griffith Observatory and Hollywood Sign. I’m a huge fan of Japanese fast food so CoCo’s curry is a must!! Elephante’s in Santa Monica is a great place to grab some food and drinks while catching views of the beach. The Grand Market is also one of my favorite places to take someone. Eggslut can’t go wrong grabbing a bite there. Can get loads of people watching downtown, there’s never a dull moment. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I want to give dedicate this shoutout to my mom for always telling me “as long as you’re happy” because I finally found something that made me happy and whole. Secondly my all time favorite book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho my favorite quote from the book is “when you want something, the universe will conspire to give it to you”. And I absolutely have to give recognition to my son Jalen, because I want him to see that you can go for your wildest dreams.
