We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Bianco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anthony, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
This is a tough question as there are a million factors that could discourage someone to give up, but there is nothing more rewarding than seeing your vision come to life. The road could have been a long and difficult one and at time discouraging. When a project is complete and out in the world and has had a positive response, there is nothing more validating that it was worth all the blood, sweat, and tears and thus you carry on.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Anthony has been blowing glass for over twenty years. His background is in furniture design and glass arts. His career has had a lot of twist and turns, working for other designers/artist and eventually being able to develop his own line of work leading to Bianco Light + Space.

Alicia has worked in the footwear and textile industries in addition to having her own eponymous clothing line. Her experiences have lead her to work along side her husband, Anthony in creating and cultivating Bianco Light + Space from their small apartment in Bushwick, Brooklyn to their current studio in Los Angeles.

There have been so many challenges and lessons that come with being a business owner in addition to being a artists/creatives but perseverance and love for what you do trumps the hardships. Having the opportunity to work for other small business prior to launching our own has also provided us insight on the how tos and what not to dos of running a business. One of the main lessons we have learned and growing pains we have endured is how to maintain work/life balance and co-worker/spouse balance.

Although it has taken us 10 plus years to get to where we are today, we are super proud of all that we have accomplished as a self funded/operated small business. We are excited for what the future will bring and are planning some new product launches so stay tuned!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Anthony and I are parents and foodies so most of our outings are very kid friendly and food oriented these days.

We love the beach and have recently started going to Crystal Cove down in Newport Beach, Malibu, Will Rogers.

From our time living in NYC Chinatown, we have a deep love for asian food. We love Woon Kitchen, Tatsu Ramen, Quarters BBQ.
Living in LA you also can’t deny good Mexican food. We love Fiesta Martin and some random tack truck by our studio that serves the best fish tacos.
Ggiata Delicatessen is also amazing for Italian sandwiches. Try the aranchini and olive oil lemon cake.
We could talk food all day!

We also love seeing art so any of the museums and galleries are always worth the visit, Broad, Hammer, Ghetty. Go to the arts district. LA also has lot of amazing architecture so definitely take a tour or rent a car and drive around with your eyes peeled.

And o the shopping! Melrose, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood Country Mart, Montana Ave in Santa Monica, York and Figueroa Street in Highland Park, The Row in DTLA. The list goes on.

And if you love movies definitely go see a movie in TCL Chinese Theater and take a studio tour.

We can’t forget the music. We got into this band called La Lom. Their Music is a blend of Cumbia, Afro Cuban Jazz, and Americana, which embodies the sound of 1940’s-70’s California. Follow them on instagram and find where the play through out the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to do a shout out to all of the employees, hired help, that help on a daily basis. They are truly essential in the growth and are the driving force of our business.
