We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Coussa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I have always been into fitness and staying healthy. Our brand, Dadbod Apparel, was founded on this mission. After having kids I still made time and made my health a priority.
As my kids have gotten a little older (5 & 3) they notice the runs I go on, workouts I do and try to emulate that in their own way. I’ve caught my older son trying to do pushups and I see both my kids showing me how fast they are – running around the house.
What I realized in this journey is that staying fit and healthy isn’t just about me anymore but in a lot of ways about them as well. They soak up everything I do and if I can SHOW them a healthy lifestyle it’s something they try to model and internalize themselves.
What should our readers know about your business?
Our company is Dadbod Apparel. We are an apparel brand for parents & kids that focuses on promoting a healthy, active & balanced lifestyle. We believe that our kids are motivation to stay healthy not an excuse to fall out of our healthy habits. We create minimalist designs on premium materials that promote fatherhood and motherhood.
We have been around for about 5 years and we have grown substantially to where we are. We have the best community! We have been so fortunate to get to where we are by continuing to create apparel that resonates with dads, moms & kids and our incredible community does a lot of promoting and sharing with their family & friends.
I wish I could say that it has been easy, it hasn’t. I think that anyone who owns a business experiences a myriad of challenges on a day to day basis. Especially over the past two years there have been SO many new challenges that everyone is having to face and adapt to. However, these challenges and experiences are what makes this fun and exciting. No two days are the same and I am constantly trying to learn and figure out new ways to reach customers and new products that customers would like to see from us.
I am very thankful for the community we have that continues to grow with us and at the end of the day we are still a small business ran by a couple of parents who believe in supporting other small, family-owned businesses to get our apparel from.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We live in beautiful Roseville, Ca which is a little north of Sacramento. There is so much this area has to offer and a lot of great food, places to see and fun things to do. I would probably start by taking him to some of my favorite sushi restaurants in the area (there are a lot). After we had dinner we’d go to a few breweries in the area to have some amazing local beer.
The next day I would take him on a wine tour through Auburn which has a lot of great wineries. The venues are beautiful, the wine is great and the scenery is amazing.
We would then take a trip up to Tahoe to do some hiking through the mountains and hang out by the lake. Tahoe offers everything, water, mountains and so many activities.
The last thing we would do is come back to Roseville and go play at Top Golf which is right down the street to hit some balls, have some drinks and enjoy some food.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely wouldn’t be the man I am or Father/Husband I am without my parents. They showed me what a healthy marriage looks like. Not that it was perfect all the time, but I saw them communicate and work through any difficult challenges they faced growing up. As parents, they taught me how to be disciplined, determined and thankful. These are all traits I carry with me now as a husband and a father.
Also, I couldn’t do my job as a business owner without my amazing wife. She holds down the fort at home with our two children and does it with grace & makes it look easy. Keeping our household in order and taking care of our kids while I’m at work is the hardest job there is and I’m so thankful that she does it day in and day out.
