We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Valdez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anthony, why did you pursue a creative career?
I personally am not happy unless I’m creating. plus, it’s cool to know that something you created is being consumed by people that enjoy what you create.

I would also have to say the timing. . . everything now is on the creative. I mean, creators/artist have always been in high demand but in this generation it’s amazing how much your life can change just by being creative & the power of social media.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I could probably go on & on about this haha. . . I think what sets me apart is my creativity. I like to pick & choose things that inspire me, add my own ingredients, & create something new. I’m building my own lane rather than competing with others trying to climb to the top. I guess which ties to the next question. I am most proud of One Sun Productions because it’s my passion project that has potential to be something bigger than I ever imagined. Not to mention its something I can pass on to my kids & future generations so I’m definitely excited for that. Well, for me it definitely was not easy and it still isn’t considering I am just beginning. Life has been a constant struggle, growing up in the lower class is difficult because its like you are destined to stay there forever. I’ve seen people escape though so that’s what pushes me everyday because I can create a new life not only for me but my family. The biggest lessons I can say is all my failures. I have always felt sorry for myself & let the failures hold me down but now I know they are blessings in disguise. Without them I wouldn’t have made any progress. I think the world should know that if you really want something in life, you can go against all odds & get it. If you don’t believe me, just watch & see.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sheesh? So many places. I would start by taking them to all the new parks they have been building cause for sure they skate! & you already know we going to Venice beach for sure. Then I would probably show them Aztec falls in San Bernardino. That place is sick! lets see. . for the night life there is a few places in DTLA I like to grab some drinks. Arts District. I even go to Dave & Busters sometimes ahah. I also know this spot in Huntington Park too. The BEST AGUACHILES. We would probably hit some street spots too. & spend the majority of the time skating & creating some content!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
wow! there is so many people I can think of who have been there for me in a specific time in my life, but I will stick with the ones who are here for good. I can honestly say my number #1 supporter through everything is my mother (Raquel Perea) + my brothers & sisters. They have always been there for me in the blink of an eye. good or bad. Now on to my friends. Mr. Aaron Meklo Rivera & Alex Cajero. These guys are my brothers. We have put in countless hours together learning tricks, practicing filming, & throwing events. It’s crazy cause we are different in many ways but skateboarding & our personal life morals has bonded us for life.
