We had the good fortune of connecting with Antonio Vasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Antonio, what makes you happy? Why?
What makes me happy is having the time to explore my interests and spending time with loved ones. I became a teacher, not just because I absolutely love working with youth but also because I realized there were no jobs out there that would give me a whole 2 months off during the summertime. I decided that, though teaching is a very hard job to do, is rewarding in the sense that you get to shape future generations but after you get a whole of it it could also afford you time to explore whatever you’re into. For instance, the thing I want to learn the most about is instruments. How to play instruments to make music and eventually perform. For anyone who dares to go on that journey, there is a realization after a few months of dabbling in it that it will take you a while before you can even get decent at it. I thought to myself, what do I not mind doing with my time that brings me satisfaction always? The answer was music. Throughout my life, no matter how hard things got music was always there for me. So I tried making some tunes, and I actually made a few decent-sounding songs I have to figure out how to mix properly and rewrite some things. So yea, in an ideal world i’d be making music, performing, and being paid for my time and energy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The path to learning instruments and perfecting my craft of producing songs has been a strenuous one, to say the least. There have been consistent moments of self-doubt and self-loathing that I have had to battle through many times. If those demons aren’t present then I deal with perfectionism and not realizing when something is meant to just be put out. I think the main factor that’s going to make me start putting my songs out there is the realization that my mac is getting old and that I never know when my Ableton or logic is going to stop working for me. I have already lost so many files to so many songs I had the intention of putting out.

The main thing I want the world to know about me or my brand is that you can do whatever you want, including deconditioning yourself from all the conditioning we have been fed since we were kids. I want people to know that this life is meant to be lived in a freeing and liberating way. That no dream is too big and that the universe has always got your back. I want people to just have fun and not take things too seriously but also to fight for what they believe and for the injustices they care about.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly shoutout to all the homies I met in LA who pushed me to take the risk to start making music and to put stuff out there. Without their push, I am not sure I would’ve even pushed myself in that way. Shoutout to Osiris8 for introducing me to the collective he’s a part of and having me DJ some functions. Shout out to Cleopatra Moore, MalikLovesYall, Jessee Wright aka Stark Glory, Jaye Middleton, and all. my Technicolor Tree Tribe people~~~
