We had the good fortune of connecting with Anu Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anu, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I moved to the U.S at the tender age of 16, not knowing English or anyone here. Looking back from the mature age I’ve now r, it strikes me as one of the riskiest decisions I’ve ever made—second only to marrying a man who lived so very differently (race) from me, which is a story in itself! However, I strongly believe that the universe has a plan for everyone. This belief reassures me that everything in my life, including my move to the U.S happens for a reason and is meant to be. Living here has undoubtedly had a profound impact on shaping who I am today.

As a fashion designer, my goal is to introduce authentic Mongolian attire to American street fashion. Recognizing the environmental impact of fast fashion, I envision a designer who repurposes old fabrics and garments into something new. I want ANUQN to become a timeless staple in people’s wardrobes, something that remains fashionable even after 20 years. I’m thrilled to introduce upcycled one-of-a-kind pieces this year.

In my professional life, I serve as a Marketing Specialist at Bayer Crop Science. My role demands keen attention to detail, creative thinking, clear communication, and skills in graphic design and social media marketing. I hold a BA degree in International Studies with a concentration in Business Management from the University of Nebraska in Omaha. Following graduation, I was recruited by Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges’ team to serve as a social media manager and graphic designer for his new venture, KidNation. I strongly encourage young readers to pursue their passions and hobbies alongside their education, as this has been key to my success.

I believe that nothing comes easy for anyone born into this world. I tackle my challenges by reflecting on how far I’ve come in life and realizing that nothing should hinder my progress at this stage. Recently, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of myself: I’ve learned to be gentle with myself so that when I fall, I endure fewer bruises.

Today, I find myself in a mindset where I’m not simply a “label”; everyone I meet tends to categorize me as one thing or another, whether it’s as an influencer or a photographer. Yet, I see myself as a brand who just does everything. Everything I do is my art, and I feel incredibly fortunate to express myself creatively and freely.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
OMG, I love this question…

First of all, my friends always stay with my family at my house. I cook and cater to them.

I live in St. Louis, MO. Of course, I will take them to the Arch, Missouri Botanical Garden, the Zoo, Delmar Loop, and the Grove.

As for food spots, Cherokee Street Tacos, Cafe Ganadara (Korean Street food), and Corner 13.

I love living in St. Louis. My family moved here in 2020 during the pandemic. Since then, we have made many great friends and built our community here. I just love the people of STL and the life that the city offers.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d say, ‘Me, myself, and I… JK…’

Growing up in a small community in Mongolia, I was influenced by several people. My earliest memories involve my grandfather, who used to teach my cousins and me song lyrics. He’d reward whoever remembered them with $5. Looking back, I realize he was teaching us how to memorize information through music, which was a genius idea! My grandfather, a well-known economist in Zuunkharaa, Mongolia, also had a passion for photography, often capturing moments with his disposable camera. Sometimes, I think he was meant to be a photographer. He was the first person to show me how to be successful and genuine.

The second influential person in my life is my mother, Tamir. Like my grandfather, she’s a respected business owner and entrepreneur in Selenge, Mongolia. She began by selling goods from China to Russia, expanding her business to Mongolia, and now owns multiple enterprises. Fluent in Russian, she communicates as if it were her first language. Watching her manage her private, public, and business lives has shaped me into the woman I am today.

As the woman I am today, I’m deeply grateful to my husband, daughter, friends, and family. They inspire me to work harder every day.
