We had the good fortune of connecting with APOORVA SANKAR and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi APOORVA, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is the motivation to believe in myself. Independence comes with its own set of turns, and it comes from a lot of mental strength and the ability to be self-sufficient. I’ve realized that all your hurdles will make you a stronger individual when you start believing in yourself. It is funny how our world revolves around people and their opinions about us. Sometimes, it’s okay to have bad days, and I always say this to myself, “Self-love can only come to you when you realize the value of your wellbeing and start working towards living a better life for yourself.” I believe in embracing my fears and have learned to love myself even more.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Filmmaking and the art of photography have changed over the past few years, and technology has impacted this medium. I love the way we can use technology to tell the story in non-traditional ways. The list can keep going on from visual effects, graphic design, 2d, and 3d animations. I love learning new software and experiment with various techniques in my work. But I also realize that simple storytelling still has the maximum impact. I recently worked on a documentary film, “Birds without Wings”,  which was a different experience as I realized the art of storytelling in the editing room. I had to analyze 40 hours of footage and develop a story from it. I struggled to figure out what would work for the story and how I would fix this puzzle together. But as I invested time with the story and the characters, I realized that simplicity and perseverance are the keys to success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As my love for the mountains has increased in the last two years. I would plan a trip to Yosemite, Sequoia, and Zion National Park. There are many trails and hiking spots, which are challenging and fun at the same time. I am not a foodie, but I would love to go out for Asian and Italian food around LA.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The biggest shoutout in my life is dedicated to my parents. They have been continuously by my side in all my decision-making. I still remember when I had no perfect direction about what I wanted to do, and I was miserable merely trying to figure out if filmmaking is the right decision. My parents sat with me on my rickety boat. They slowly paddled it forward and made me pushed me to believe in my dreams. They had no film knowledge, but their interests grew only for me.  The next shout-out goes to Rishabh Thakkar, the director of Birds without Wings, who believed in me and brought me into this project. This film became the finalist of the Student Academy and has an amazing festival run.
