Meet April P. Bond | Entrepreneur, Business Coach, Speaker, and Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with April P. Bond and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi April P., how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from the great city of Baltimore, MD! My upbringing impacts me today, because I grew up with an entrepreneurial spirit. There were many opportunities in Baltimore for youth, at that time. I sold candy, hand-written rap lyrics, and delivered the Afro-American newspaper. Both of my parents were hard workers and that affected me as well. I’d see them go to work day in and out, My Mother as an Electronic Technician, at Westinghouse, and my Father as a correctional officer, at Patuxent Correctional Institute. Seeing them work everyday, instilled in me the work ethic I have today, to be consistently consistent!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I dabbled in the fast life and was labeled a felon. I was faced with the harsh reality that crime doesn’t pay, and was found guilty as a consequence of my poor decisions.

While wearing the label of “EX CON” I built a rental portfolio with rental properties, and created a highly successful multi figure real estate company, called A New Way Home, LLC! In the wake of the pandemic I launched Sanitized Cleaning, LLC, in response to the spiking need for sanitization and cleaning solutions across the state of North Carolina, where I now reside. Realizing my ability to create multiple multi figure businesses, I expanded my reach and shared my knowledge by creating a coaching platform gracefully known as APB Coaching, LLC.

I am on a mission to empower individuals to strive toward creating new labels for themselves, as entrepreneurs. My journey has provided me the opportunity to reinvent myself by sharing my story, despite my past label of felon. I am speaking out on embracing your labels and using them as an opportunity to help others who resemble me at my worst. I’m an instructor with the non-profit, Inmates to Entrepreneurs. In this role, I speak to Inmates who are looking to become Entrepreneurs, and motivate them that they can remove the labels of felon and replace it with ENTREPRENEUR!.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Durham, NC. It’s a very vibrant and diverse city, full of activity. I love to catch comedy acts at the Improv Comedy Club. I meditate and hike at the Eno River. One of my favorite restaurants is “Let’s Eat” soul food restaurant. I treat myself to Hydrofacials, and great customer service, at the New Image Day Spa. A great place to enjoy a drink is the rooftop bar at The Unscripted Boutique Hotel.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out 2 people, my son and my daughter. I have lived an extraordinary life filled with twists and turns, and they have all played a pivotal role in what I have accomplished today, but nothing has been more pivotal than the birth of my children. I consider them both life-saving angels, that came to me at times in my life when I was trying to figure out the trajectory of my life, and they made it crystal clear. I raised them as blank canvases, and that allowed them to cultivate their true selves, and in turn I was allowed to discover my authentic self along the way.

Currently, they both are entrepreneurs. My son is 26 years old, and a professional celebrity photographer. My daughter is a 22 year old, graphic designer and hair extension retailer. Unbeknownst to me they were watching and learning from my entrepreneurial endeavors and became entrepreneurs themselves! They have made me a proud Mommy! I didn’t pick my team……I birthed my team!
