We had the good fortune of connecting with Arden Alexa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arden, why did you pursue a creative career?
To be completely honest, there was never really any other option. As cliché as that sounds, that is how I’ve always felt. Despite knowing that a career in the entertainment business would be uncertain and difficult and brutal, there was never anything else I wanted to do. Even when all of my friends were applying to college, even when people made fun of me for wanting to be a musician, even when my parents sat me down and asked me if I was really sure because music wouldn’t be an easy path. All of those things became secondary to how I felt about music, and the fact that I would endure all of those things to be able to make music. Being in this incredibly lucky position where I had found my passion and been given the opportunity to pursue it only encouraged me further. And my parents were right, it hasn’t been an easy journey so far, but I think that’s the beauty of humans, we fight for what we love, even when it isn’t easy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
If there is one thing that people remember about me, I hope it is my authenticity. I believe authenticity is what makes music so amazing and what makes us love musical artists so much. When an artist writes a song about an experience they have and the listener connects to the song, or maybe feels understood by the artist, there is no better feeling. That is what I am always striving to do with my music. I have a voice and a means of expressing myself that I can use to share experiences that maybe aren’t commonly talked about or represented, and if even just one person connects with my music in some way, then I consider that a success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am all about the live shows! Since moving to LA, my favorite thing to do has been going to all different kinds of shows. Some of my favorites are The Groundlings for a comedy show, Makeout Music for indie music, and Genghis Cohen for great live bands (and chinese food!). Eating is also a must on my itinerary and and there are literally SO many incredible restaurants. My favorites are Crossroads Kitchen on Melrose, Salaya Thai, Sugarfish, and Plant Power (yes this is technically fast food but it is the best vegan fast food you will ever have).

We all know that LA has no shortage of cool places and fun activities. That being said, some of my favorite spots to visit are Vroman’s bookstore (there are multiple locations but I like the Pasadena one the best), Sunbeam Vintage (the best place to furniture shop), Barney’s Beanery in WeHo, and if I’m feeling like a drive, I love going to Laguna Beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family. Without a doubt. I would honestly be nowhere without them. My dad, who is the only one who really understands my love of music, who comes to all of my gigs and spends his very little free time helping my career. My mom, who keeps me sane and is always there to listens to me rant or encourage me when I want to give up. Both of my brothers, who are the presidents of my fan club and my best friends.

They are the first ones to hear every song and every achievement. My love of music is the reason I started, but they are the reason I keep going.
