We had the good fortune of connecting with Rae Mystic and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rae, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success & my brand is finding new ways to navigate my business in trying times (COVID) while providing the experience I did before the pandemic. Setting myself apart from other artists – being a jack of all trades and being capable to jump in where I am needed on the fly & commiting to my aesthetic. My #1 objective is to visually MAKE an artists presentation & better their business with my visual work.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am truly a service provider. I am a photographer first. On that journey I gained many skill sets to broaden the services I provide. I am a visual stepping stone for a business/artist as a photographer. I am here to help, I am here to meld our minds together to visually provide what you/your business needs to represent itself, or sell. What sets me apart from others is my (not normal) super human like energy. I am not condoning hustle culture, but I LIVE for it. I thrive in it. I am capable of of work/self care/service balance. Some photo gigs I will wear multiple hats, have multiple jobs within my own. My tenacity, motivate and wanting the BEST for others is my MO. I’ve made many mistakes & had wonderful opportunities on the way. It wasn’t easy, it’s never been easy. I believe this journey will always be an uphill climb. Falling is inevitable, fortunately I have a history of building everything back up again! I overcome these challenges by remembering i’ve always overcome them before! I’ve definitely learned setting boundaries while also knowing my worth is a great balancing act. I work backwards. What’s the goal? What do i need to do in my life where i create a system where nothing else makes sense but to GET THERE. I want whoever reading this to know, not only in business, art, or life…… If you have a safe space to be 100% yourself…. unapologetically…. There is no other option but for your people, clients, loved ones to find you. The fact that I am ALIVE is a miracle, I have lived far from a typical life. Instead of letting my demons take over, I fight them. Every time I do I become stronger & the more I can overcome. I always want to be growing. After every project I am a part of, I become stronger & I grow. It will never stop! I’m excited.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Great question! Starting off the day i’d make a breakfast sandwich & drink some coffee! I love cooking for others as well as deep conversation over coffee! Then of course take a 4 hour drive to the Madonna Inn (my favorite place) & sing in the car to music. Maybe stop by a brewery to pick up some craft beer before arriving! Upon arrival, grab some Pink Champagne cake from the Madonna Inn, go to the hotel room, set up some lights and gear to do a fun photoshoot! Karaoke is one of my favorite “fun time, not work” activities so we would definitely end the day by Ubering over to a dive bar to do karaoke.
I wish I could live every weekend this way with my loved ones!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Growing as a photographer, my college professor (Fullerton College) Melody La Montia really REALLY pushed me with so much tough love to challenge myself to be a better artist. “Learning the rules before you break them” is what she drilled in me. I break the rules every day NOW & I have the tools to do it deliberately. I’d also like to give a shout out to a couple photo/video/director friends that have always been supportive in sharing knowledge & opportunities with me:
Chantel Beam (San Francisco, CA – Cinematographer/Photographer)
Chris Graue (SoCal Director)
