Meet Argel Cota | ‘Arhkota’ – The Avant Garde Artist.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Argel Cota and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Argel, what role has risk played in your life or career?
My first risk was when I decided to come to Los Angeles, CA. at my 25 years old , leaving everything behind, friends, culture and my family. The risk of coming to do what I like the most “music” and bring it to another city, another Culture, is the most important risk I have taken in my life and the best. between highs & lows I have still been able to survive doing music for twenty two years as a session Drummer and solo artist.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In the beginning it was hard playing Drums in LA because of the competition. At that time I was playing with Niño Astronauta the most complicated band to play because of rhythm section this project help me to continue to do music as a session Drummer. The drums section in Niño Astronauta was so noticeable in that band it was hard to miss and with what it help me to get notice by other artist who then contact me to do session work & got me more gigs in L.A..
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to say my mentor in my life is my Mom, actually I wrote and dedicated a song “Victoria” from my solo Album Dreamy Hamilton for her. Also growing up listening to music my first main influences were Japan, David Sylvian, Cocteau Twins, John Lennon, The The, This Mortal Coil, Jeff Buckley, Sonios, Brit Pop., But as a drummer my biggest influence was Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson).
