We had the good fortune of connecting with Arianna Barquero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arianna, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Ever since I was 5 years old I would love playing with my mom’s makeup. Growing up my grandma would take her afternoon naps in her rocking chair and would allow me to “doll her up”while she slept. I loved it, because I could basically apply as much makeup as I wanted and she wouldn’t care because she was sleeping… when she would wake up she would look at herself in the mirror and tell me “ You are such an artist, you made me look so beautiful”

After high school I decided to pursue dentistry, I wanted to be a cosmetic dentist. I knew that creating beautiful smiles would be something I would enjoy.
Fast forward 15 years, after working in the dental field for a while I got the itch to go back to school. This time was makeup school, I signed up to learn beauty makeup, special effects and hair styling.

Artistry can come in some many forms. I have enjoyed every phase of my artistic life so far. Is about finding what you are truly passionate about and running it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s been 13 years since I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a makeup artist. I’ve had the opportunity to work amazing fashion shows such as New York and LA Fashion week. I have also done makeup for commercials, TV and magazines. For the past 8 years I’ve focused on growing my bridal beauty business. My team and I provide vegan & cruelty-free hair and makeup bridal beauty services all over California. In addition I own a beauty studio in Glendora that provides cosmetic tattoo services such as semipermanent brow tattoo, Lip blush and waxing services.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start locally. My beauty studio is located in the cute little town of Glendora Ca. Glendora has a very charming downtown called The Glendora Village. It has great restaurants, a nice coffee shop, wine store, hookah lounge and bakery. It’s a great place to come walk around, have breakfast or lunch and enjoy a coffee later.

Pasadena is about 15 minute drive from Glendora and it has a lot of stores to shop, many great bars and a great downtown area as well.

The Huntington Library is also a great place to visit while in Pasadena. It has beautiful gardens, lots of history and an amazing tea room to enjoy an afternoon tea in the garden.

For a fun dinner I would head to Korean Town, my favorite spot is Quarters Korean BBQ. It’s a very cool atmosphere, it has a great bar and patio area.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
After working a 9-5pm job for over 20 years and then deciding to leave my “stable job” to pursue my makeup career, was definitely a very scary change. I have to thank my husband Diego Quiroz and mom Nancy Fernandez for encouraging me to make the change and follow my heart. They have been my greatest supporters
