We had the good fortune of connecting with Armanee Sinaga and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Armanee, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Even when the path I would try to take wasn’t for art, Art and creating would always find its way back to me. I genuinely think this is what I am supposed to do. Share stories, create worlds and just drawing whatever comes to mind. I’ve always loved illustrating since I was small and the fact that I even tried to anything other than art is so funny to me. I LOVE DRAWING. I have something to share and I hope that my shared work connects with people.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is primarily drawn in black and white but the stories in my work are what give them it’s color. I like telling “the stories of nature” in my art in a way where us humans can feel more connected to whatever I’m drawing. There’s so many stories you can tell when it comes to nature new and old. Some of my work is inspired by stories that us humans have already told like one about the cow jumping over the moon or how our loved ones become stars. I love to personify nature. Bringing life…identity and or a little story to a flower.. I feel like that can make someone be more gentle to flowers. Maybe even become closer to them and even feel like they are just like that flower. I think it’s important to draw nature feeling emotion. The world where everything is living and feeling. I like seeing the world this way and sharing that with others. It makes the world feel so alive and magical. As it has always has.

I got to where I am today because I feel like my art started to become mine. My own unique voice started showing on the paper. This was when I found my style and really really loved to create. I could get immense joy from drawing and that was when I think people could see that in my work.

Even though I’ve been making art for awhile now, I still have so much to learn about being an artist. I’ve only recently started reaching out to other artists for their advice about things art related. I used to try to figure everything out on my own. But it’s okay to ask others for help and collaborate with other people. There’s so much we can share with each other.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I genuinely do not go out. I know for a fact we’d stay home most of the time watch movies and play board games at most. OOOOH we could go to a restaurant called tacos veganos. Best vegan tacos in the world. Tacos veganos is worth a weekend long trip. 🙂

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom: Cat. My mom has always helped me and supported me in doing what I love to do and she still does! I remember her getting me my first couple of portrait and pet portrait commissions when I was a freshman in high-school. That was a time when I was too shy to interact with people or even dare do commission talk. Even from the beginning, she has always nourished my dream of being an artist.
