We had the good fortune of connecting with Armin Nasseri and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Armin, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I have always been a risk taker. Anytime you make an independent film and you fund it yourself, it’s a huge risk. I have done this many times and the rewards have been incredible. No risk, no reward.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Independent filmmaking has never been easy. I went through many challenges, including finding funding, being hospitalized while in pre-production, dealing with challenging shooting schedules, dealing with editing issues and finding distribution. These setbacks have not deterred me from reaching my goals. I have been persistent and always followed my own path. I am fortunate to have achieved a level of success. To date, I have directed two music videos for the L.A. band Aventurine. I have made the short films: Jump, Seeking Valentina, The Carting Call along with the feature film The Central Authority and my latest documentary feature George Hobbs: Stick Figure Wisdom. All of these films are award winners. I am currently working on a new documentary feature and I have several projects in development. My mission as a filmmaker is to give a voice to the voiceless.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like places that are off the beaten path. I would take my friends to places for great food, great music and great times.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A big credit goes to my family, who have always been by my side. I also want to give credit to my friend and long time collaborator Kristin West.
