We had the good fortune of connecting with Art Streiber and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Art, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
My the factors in my success fall into three categories; Persistence / Dedication. Preparation. Adaptation / Flexibility. I believe in all of these aspects, ingredients or components and practice them every day. If you believe in yourself and what you do and what you bring to the table, you have to be persistent, in the best possible way. You have to be prepared for any eventuality. And you have to adapt to and be flexible with changes in your business and changes in your industry.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a freelance photographer specializing in entertainment and editorial, but over the course of my career I have shot news, sports, events, weddings, travel, fashion, still life and interiors. I shoot a lot of large group portraits, which is a speciality in and of itself. I have a reputation as a technical problem solver, someone who clients can turn to when the assignment seems daunting or “unsolvable.” I got here by always saying “yes,” even though I might not have known how to solve the problem at hand. I built a network of knowledgable creatives who could be called upon to help me come up with workable solutions. Years of experimentation and trial and error has given me the experience to creatively problem solve in an effective and budget-friendly manner. Team work, sharing credit and acknowledging and nurturing talent all contribute to the success of my projects.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Hollywood Bowl. The Bel Air Hotel. Point Dume in Malibu. The Griffith Park Observatory. Mulholland Drive. Manhattan Beach. The Huntington Gardens. The Brentwood Mart. The Getty Museum. The Hollywood Walk of Fame. Rodeo Drive. Sunset Boulevard from Hollywood to the Coast. The list goes on and on. Eat at Neptune’s Net. The Avalon Hotel. Violet in Westwood. Hama Sushi in Venice. The Apple Pan. Dear John’s. Dear Jane’s in the Marina.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My team. Elaine Browne, my long-time friend, former First Assistant and Executive Producer, now my Entertainment Agent. Elaine and I have been together for two decades and she has worn almost every hat there is to where on my shoots. Ann Stock, my business manager. Ann is dogged in her pursuit of outstanding invoices and so thoughtful about paying our vendors and managing our cash flow. Evan Mulling, my First Assistant and Studio Manager. Evan has grown from being an intern to being the day-to-day manager on all of my shoots and all of my marketing. I would not be able to do what I do with out the support of all three of these incredible talented and dedicated people. My grandfather, Arthur J. Kates sparked my love of photography and my father, Bill Streiber, helped me manage my business from the beginning. My wife, Glynis Costin has been my advisor and sounding board for 30 years. And my daughters, Siena and Kayla have been my greatest cheerleaders.
