We had the good fortune of connecting with Kym Nicole Oubre and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kym Nicole, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My business, like many others closed and work came to a screeching halt. I am grateful that my salon work and television work kept me busy, working to the bone, however, it did not allow me time to get aquatinted with the what if’s of a major shutdown.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been a cosmetologist for 19 years and owner of the Kym Nicole Beauty Studio for 8 years. I’ve also been doing makeup for television and film for over 10 years. I believe my kind and gentle demeanor, my ability to connect with and protect my client and my cleanliness sets me apart from others. I’m most excited about my future and whats to come. I’ve accomplished quite a bit in my career with salon ownership, clientele and resume with much more than I can ever fathom to come. I’m living my dream! It definitely hasn’t been an easy road though. It’s been extremely bumpy. There has been a lot of sleepless nights, blood, sweat, tears, strong faith and praying. In the beginning of my career, social media wasn’t popular. Pounding the pavement/hustling, referrals and a stroke of fate got you into rooms, clients in your chair and onto productions. It wasn’t as easy for clients to find you and book your services. I did a lot of work for free and worked foolish hours at an extremely low rate to build relationships in the entertainment industry. I’ve learned to always, stay grounded, courteous, positive, reserved, respectful and on top of my craft. The Kym Nicole brand represents beauty, strength, confidence, and effortless glam.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If you’re coming to visit Los Angeles, you’d definitely need to hit all of the hot spots. Visit various museums, take a few Hollywood tours, see a play/show, attend a concert, bar hop downtown, go to a hip Hollywood night club, shop the famous malls, get serviced at the hippest salons, eat at the cool food trucks and arouse your palette at the five star restaurants. Anywhere you are in the greater Los Angeles area, doing any of the listed things, you’re bound to have a few celebrity sightings.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I’d love to shoutout my Mother! Growing up, I saw how hard she worked to make sure we (her children) had everything we needed. I’d love to also shoutout and thank my mentors, Kynessa Smith & Vonda Morris. Without them sharing their knowledge, skill, experiences and discipline, I would not be where I am in my career. Lastly, shout out to my friends and supporters! Thank you for your always cheering me on; your countless love, energy and support.
