We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, what principle do you value most?
One of my most valued concepts is that customer service is everything. Customers are the most important Pilar in any business. It determines how I shop and how I run my company. I truly believe if you invest in your customers they will Invest in you. Being a business owner doesn’t mean you’re going to get it right 100% of the time but you can always make it right. A lot of people are afraid of negative feedback from customers or get offended when someone brings up an opinion that is different than their own but this is the biggest opportunity for growth. When a customer comes to me with a problem I look at it as a chance to get better, to use my creativity to come up with a solution. When I take the time to listen to my audience they give me insight that I may have never heard otherwise. I cater my business to my customers. Every single order comes with a handwritten letter and a personalize thank you because I want my product and service to always stand out. As long as I grow I will always put my customers first.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is Simple Dot Natural an all natural skincare company specializing in dry skin relief. Similar to some of your favorite brands we are vegan, and cruelty free however every product is handcrafted. We do not mass produce our products and they are free from all harmful chemicals and additives. The thing that sets us apart from other companies is the fusion of art and creativity that is apart of our brand. Most people who are looking for skincare products are looking for a quick fix, that is not what our company is about. We are all about consistency and dedication. We preach that “Healing takes time” and that you have to be dedicated to you skincare journey to see true result. There has to be effort on both end to create a skin transformation not just a temporary fix. Another thing I truly enjoy is fusing my poetry into my products. All of our body butters contain a custom poem written exclusively to describe how to use each product. This is something I have never seen and makes each product much more personal. Getting to where I am now was not easy. I got to where I am now is by listening to my supporters. They make the decisions and I supply the results. We grow together. My goal is to create products that resolve issues and make you feel good. Customers service is everything and it is the most important part of my business. It has not been easy. I have spent a lot of money creating products that did not sell. Having more inventory then I needed doing to many giveaway all of which was very frustrating. The way I overcame this issue was by listening to my audience more. I started creating polls asking “what do you want”. This helped me gather the opinion of people who were actual buyers to find out what they truly wanted. I stopped making products that I wanted and started making products my audience wanted. This helped me create smarter products and give the power to the people. I feel since I’ve made this change I’ve saved more money and stopping thinking about myself. If there was only one thing I could tell the world about purchasing a product from us, I would say once you purchase a product you are apart of a family. I care so much about each and every person. I use feedback from my audience to release new products, choose new scents, sizes and all the fun things about owning a business. When you purchase you are not getting a robot, you are supporting a family that is working hard to make skincare products you can depend on.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m from Detroit so that is where I would be showing friends around. My favorite thing to do is to eat & enjoy poetry. Some of my favorite places to visit would be the River Walk, to get some fresh air, take a boat ride and learn some history of Detroit. Nandi’s knowledge cafe on Thursday’s for poetry night and Club NEP on Sunday. The DIA , and African American museum for some beautiful art and history. For food Hudson’s cafe for brunch, Fishbones for Dinner and Coney Island anytime of the day because it is a city must have. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As proud as I am of my business journey I couldn’t have been where I am now without my fiancé, Kyle Mack. He is my number 1 supporter. He helps me with my day to day business responsibilities and more than anything he is always there with emotional support. Being a business owner is not easy so having a solid partner makes the hard days a little easier. He is the best Dad, fiancé and partner I could have asked for shoutout to him!
