Meet Ashley Noelle Edwards | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Noelle Edwards and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley Noelle, what do you attribute your success to?
The best thing I did for my brand was when I was able to make the move from that phase in the beginning of your career where you tend to listen to the advice of others in your industry or operate the way the majority are operating because you haven’t had the experience yet to pinpoint what it is only you can offer and what your business policy and practice preferences are. For about 3 years I left every photography group on social media and focused on myself and what I want to offer as an artist and a business owner. I think there’s this tendency in the wedding industry especially for photographers to follow advice from groups and place a lot of importance on listening to people who have been doing this for more than a decade, but I have found it’s best to listen to your own instincts and voice and bring fresh perspectives and ways of doing things to clients. My clients have told me time and time again how much they appreciate how different I am from the crowd and that means the world to me. Hearing this so often from clients and prospective clients validates to me that I am on the correct path. So definitely I would say the most important factor in my success has been to trust myself and my own creative voice and ideas above anything else.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a wedding photographer, but above that I am an artist who enjoys the medium of film photography to express myself and share the beauty I see everywhere all the time in the world. 99.9% of my work is shot on medium format and 35mm film, including entire wedding days, which is a rare service these days even though film photography has been so sought after and highly imitated. Shooting film is both simple and extremely difficult and I enjoy that contradiction and the tension between feeling so free and effortless as I’m shooting yet also feeling connected, challenged, and intellectually engaged in what I’m doing. For me that tension and process allows me to create work that feels emotional and I find that translates really well for wedding photography since weddings are such emotional events.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite days in Los Angeles have always started with sunrise views at Griffith Observatory and ended with parties and sleepovers at Chateau Marmont. Jewelry shopping for some incredible vintage and antique pieces at Trumpet and Horn downtown. Fries and shakes at 25 Degrees in the Hotel Roosevelt and then cocktails after in their lobby where sometimes a few drinks turns into finding yourself stumbling into the middle of a cast party after a red carpet event, which is kind-of a fun and unique to the city experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I so appreciate industry friends who have worked collaboratively with me to produce artistic editorials and projects to inspire wedding design and photography. In particular, my dear friends Raven Reed Luxury Beauty, Mignon Floral Co, and Le Bloomerie.
