We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Wheeler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success has certainly been the people that I surround myself with. From friends, family, and colleagues, I’ve come to realize the most humbling and important aspects of the relationships I’ve been fortunate to build have been based on mutual respect and support. I am happy to share two specific examples of relationships that have been a major factor behind my success.

In my personal life, it has been so crucial to have a life partner who wholeheartedly supports my passions and ambitions. To have someone that has undoubted trust in you (and vice versa) is so important. It means that if one of us takes a risk, the other is there with open arms and zero judgment should we fall down. It truly feels like a space where both of us can live equally to pursue personal and professional growth.

In a professional sense, I recently co-founded a marketing agency, Alpen&Glo, and my business partner is someone that I know balances both my strengths and weaknesses, the yin to my yang as some may say. Being able to find someone who can go through the ups and downs of running a business together is a challenging, taxing, yet thrilling journey, one that can only be built from a solid foundation.

Overall, with starting this new business, I’ve never felt so much love and support from people who were rooting for us. Whether it be in trusting us with their work, offering guidance or advice, or simply just a shoulder to lean on, community is such a strong factor to success in all aspects of my life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In 2020 I co-founded Alpen&Glo, a marketing agency, where we work closely with brands offering customized marketing support based on their business needs, goals, and objectives. Where we really shine is how we work with our clients. We view our clients as true partners and act as if we are simply an extension of their team. By having a transparent and trusting relationship with those we work with, it allows us to get to the heart of their needs to help them build a solid foundation through strategy and planning and in turn allow their brand to shine through our marketing efforts.

We’ve learned a lot in the past year of growth and feel very fortunate to have worked with some incredible brands. I really do believe in manifestation, and so at the top of each year, we set goals for ourselves. Not just the numbers, but also goals for how we want to see our company and our individual selves grow. I think this is so crucial for any business, to simply take a beat and think about what you truly want and what success means to you because that can change year to year. It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, but to take time to reflect and look ahead is important.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my bestie was coming into town I’d definitely want to give them a good balance of touristy and local flare. The best way to do that is to visit the Downtown, Hollywood, and the Westside areas of LA throughout the week.

In Downtown, a must would be eating in the Arts District. Cafe Gratitude and ediBOL are some of my favorites for lunch, and Bestia and Girl & the Goat are some of my favorites for dinner. Another fun place to eat is Grand Terminal Market where you can try local food from a bunch of different food stalls. My touristy to-do list in this area of town would be to check out The Last Book Store, enjoy some High Tea at The Biltmore Hotel, and make a reservation to see the Broad Museum.

In the Hollywood and West Hollywood areas, you of course have to take a stroll down Rodeo Dr., shop on Melrose Ave. and find the Hollywood Sign, but more importantly, you should check out some of their amazing rooftops like Bar Lis and E.P. & L.P. For dinner, one of my favorite spots is Gracias Madre, which offers a vegan Mexican-inspired menu.

On to the incredible Westside, which is where I choose to reside. You can’t go wrong with checking out all of the different beautiful beach towns of LA, each having its own unique vibes. Santa Monica is a great place to shop and actually spend some time laying out on the beach! Right off the promenade, my favorite restaurants to eat at are Elephante and The Misfits. Don’t miss Montana Ave. while you’re in Santa Monica, which has my local favorites for food – Arts Table and Sweet Lady Jane. Oh, and for breakfast or dessert (or whenever), Sidecar Donuts is a must! Manhattan and Hermosa beach are the quintessential relaxing beach towns of LA, known for their surfing and local eateries, you can’t go wrong with a visit there.

Lastly, if we had time to check out some other spots I would definitely recommend hitting up some smaller neighborhoods, my favorite being centered around Asian cuisine. Koreatown for KBBQ, Westminster for Vietnamese, Little Tokyo for Japanese, the options are endless!

Some other touristy bonuses, because being basic is fun too! Check out one of the multiple theme parks (Universal Studios, Disneyland, and California Adventure), go take part in a live studio audience (I’m a big fan of The Real!), and do a studio tour (Warner Bros to see the Friends set).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shout-out to my business partner, Raha Borhani! She has been my soul sister through our journey together building our marketing agency, Alpen&Glo. We’ve learned that no matter what the hurdle, we can always overcome it together. As a result, the confidence that we’ve developed by having each other’s shoulders to lean on has been so crucial to our success. I truly could not have come through the trials of 2020-2021 (surprisingly a better version of myself) without her!
