We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashwini Murthy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashwini, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to create a business with my partner that infused masculinity and femininity within the world of advertising and commercial content. I loved working alongside my partner and we truly felt like we balanced one another like a scale when it came to creative projects and planning/creating campaigns for brands and businesses. We wanted to infuse the best of both worlds that we were apart of- business for me and the arts for my husband. It started as a vehicle for self expression, but later turned out to be a necessity when we moved to Los Angeles and no one wanted to hire us as employers.
What should our readers know about your business?
Goosehouse is a live action, post production studio in Los Angeles California. We collaborate with agencies, brands, and corporations working across genres from tabletop, fashion, commercial and documentaries.
We are art connoisseurs and story tellers who truly believe in the expression of Andy Warhol: that “in the future everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” And hope that our visual style reflect that.
There is no getting to where you want to go without the obstacles and hurdles. It’s important to stay resilient, grateful, and humble on the way to your imagined destination.
We are a husband and wife company that believes in the dance of co-creation and all that this world has open for possibility. Love what you do and who you do it with and everything starts to become more play than work.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles is so diverse with so many fun things to do during the week and weekend. I absolutely love swimming, catching a sunset at El Matador, or Manhattan beach. There are a lot of thrifting opportunities on the weekends at the Melrose Trading post or Hollywood Rosebowl where you can find beautiful antique and vintage goods. I also love silver shopping at Stars Antique Market. Being a photographer- I always love finding beautiful scenic spots to shoot at like the Neptune Fountain, Wayfarers Chapel, or Vasquez rocks.
When it comes to eating or grabbing a bite to eat I love the strand in Manhattan beach where you can watch the sunset or the beach from where you eat, koreatown’s Somisomi fish waffle cone ice cream, or grabbing some Italian food and hearing the waiters sing at C&O Cucina in Venice Beach as they top off your wine and garlic knots.
If you’re in the mood for a hike to break a sweat I’d suggest Kenneth Hahn, the solstice trial, or strawberry peak for an extra challenging hike!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If there is one person that I’d give a shoutout to it would be my partner, best friend, and husband Erich Grosskopf. He is a Los Angeles based multi-disciplinary artist who combines infrared photography, digital and collage techniques as a means to explore ideas a color. When we began this journey of artistic discovery together we became one another’s muse, critic, and supporters. I couldn’t do this ride without having honest feedback that comes from a loving space and opinion. He picks me up when I’m down, and reminds me that the journey of the artist is about the long term results- not just the short term rewards that sometimes we seek for easy gratification!
