We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheryl Coughlan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheryl, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The success of Antiques on Magnolia is deeply rooted in our passion for antiques and the stories they carry. We’re not just in this business for financial gain; our mission is to give items a second, third, or even fourth chance at life. When I started this journey, it wasn’t with the intention of getting rich. I believed that there were others out there who shared my love for antiques and desired to own them at affordable prices. I also understood that my clients wanted their cherished family heirlooms to continue their legacy in new homes.

We approach each piece with empathy, love, and passion—qualities that my team and I embody wholeheartedly. We recognize that parting with family treasures can be emotionally challenging. It’s our responsibility to assure clients that their items will be sold with the utmost respect and care.

Our brand’s success is also built on the trust and relationships we’ve cultivated with our clients and buyers. Over time, many of our customers have become friends, and some even feel like family. We have a loyal following, with clients who eagerly attend every estate sale we host, never missing a single one. This sense of community and trust is the cornerstone of Antiques on Magnolia’s success.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets Antiques on Magnolia apart from other estate sale companies is our commitment to our clients and customers. We work with them as a team and consistently go above and beyond what is required to ensure everyones satisfaction. Our dedication to perfection is reflected in every aspect of our work.

I am immensely proud of my crew. They work diligently, putting in hard and steadfast efforts to make sure everything is done to the highest standards, from cleaning the property to pricing items and setting up for sales. Their meticulous attention to detail guarantees a successful outcome. They also treat every customer with the utmost care, making sure no one feels left out or unattended. My team is the heart and soul of Antiques on Magnolia.

Starting a business is never easy. I had to step out of my comfort zone and face challenges that I wasn’t sure I could overcome. But with dedication and hard work, I managed to continuously navigate through them all. The journey has taught me many valuable lessons about what to do, what not to do, and what to do differently. There isn’t a handbook for this business—I had to write my own along the way.

Antiques on Magnolia is a female-owned business, run by a single mom who dedicated her life savings to building something she was passionate about. My brand encompasses a wide range of services, including Estate Sales, Auctions, appraisals, clean outs, and consignments. We welcome anyone with questions and are always here to help.

What I want the world to know about Antiques on Magnolia is that we are more than just a business; we are a community dedicated to preserving the legacy of cherished items and providing exceptional service to our clients and customers along the way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d want to give them an unforgettable experience.

We’d have to swing by my favorite deli, Lovi’s in Calabasas, Followed by scenic drives over Kanan Canyon to enjoy the beautiful views. A stop for drinks at The Sunset, soaking in the stunning surroundings, and end the day with a fantastic dinner at Terra e Mare in Sherman Oaks.

A visit to my son in West Hollywood would be a must, where we’d enjoy lunch or dinner at La Boheme, my favorite spot for atmosphere and prime people-watching opportunities.

A day trip to Disneyland would be essential for a dose of thrills.

We’d have to spend a day thrifting, exploring local shops for unique treasures, and of course, making stops at client homes for appraisals and consignment visits since I’m always working.

And no trip would complete without a stop at the Sagebrush Cantina for dancing to our favorite throwback songs.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my son, Jason Coughlan. When I had to close my first antiques store in 2009 due to a debilitating illness, I found myself in a very dark place, uncertain about my future. Jason’s unwavering support, love, and encouragement during that difficult time were invaluable. When I began talking about starting Antiques on Magnolia, he continuously urged me to pursue my passion, always reassuring me that he would have my back. Ten years later, Jason is still by my side, supporting me every step of the way. I couldn’t have achieved this success without him.
